Taiwan Power Company President's Residence Introduction

The Taiwan Electric Power Company during the Japanese colonial period was an important energy institution at a time when industry was just beginning to develop. Its chief official's residence was built near the city walls and is one of the few remaining well-preserved official residences today. After the restoration of Taiwan, it was repurposed as the Central Guest House and the official residence of the Governor of Taiwan. This residence, surrounded by high walls, features a Western architectural style, with a tiled roof and white walls, reflecting the charm of Mediterranean villas from Italy or Spain. Many high-ranking official residences during the Japanese era favored various European residential styles. This elegant building with a courtyard has an arched entrance hall, decorated with Greek columns, and wooden staircases, showcasing simple and elegant decor. Originally, there were Japanese-style rooms at the back of the house, which have since been demolished. This design, with European-style in the front and Japanese-style rooms in the back, also reflects the lifestyle of Japanese officials in Taiwan at that time.
