Taiwan Power Company President's Residence Introduction

During the Japanese colonial period, the Taiwan Power Company was an important energy institution at the start of industrial development. Its chief executive's residence was built near the city wall and remains a well-preserved official residence today. After the restoration of Taiwan, it served as the Central Guesthouse and the residence of the Governor of Taiwan. This residence, surrounded by high walls, is designed in a Western style, featuring a tiled roof and white walls with arched windows, reflecting the charm of Southern European villas from Italy or Spain. Many high-ranking official residences from the Japanese colonial period adopted different styles of European residential architecture. This elegant-looking Western-style house, set in a courtyard environment, has an entrance with an arched hall, decorated with Greek columns. The staircase is made of wood, and the decor is simple and tasteful. Originally, there were Japanese-style rooms at the back of the house, which have since been removed. This architectural style, with a Western façade and Japanese-style rooms added at the back, also reflects the lifestyle of Japanese officials in Taiwan at that time.
