Taiwan Power Company President's Residence Introduction

During the Japanese colonial period, the Taiwan Electric Company was an important energy institution at the outset of industrial development. Its official residence was built near the city walls and is currently one of the well-preserved official residences. After the restoration of Taiwan’s sovereignty, it was repurposed as the Central Guesthouse and the residence of the Governor of Taiwan Province. This residence, surrounded by high walls, features a Western architectural style, with a tiled roof and white walls that reflect the charm of Mediterranean villas from southern Italy or Spain. Many high-ranking residences during the Japanese colonial period favored different styles of European house designs. This elegant Western-style house has a courtyard environment, an entrance with an arched hall, and is adorned with Greek columns as decoration. The staircase is made of wood, and the decoration is simple and elegant. Originally, there were Japanese-style rooms at the back of the house, which were later demolished. This construction method, featuring a Western style in the front and a Japanese-style addition in the back, also reflects the lifestyle of Japanese officials in Taiwan at that time.
