Taiwan Power Company President's Residence Introduction

During the Japanese colonial period, the Taiwan Power Company was an important energy institution during the early stages of industrial development. Its chief official residence was built near the city walls and is currently a well-preserved official residence. After the retrocession, it was repurposed as the Central Guest House and the official residence of the Governor of Taiwan. Surrounded by high walls, this residence features a Western architectural style, with a tiled roof and white walls, showcasing the charm of Southern European villas, reminiscent of Italian or Spanish designs. Many high-ranking official residences during the Japanese colonial period favored various European residential styles. This elegant house with a courtyard has an entrance with an arched hallway, decorated with Greek columns. The wooden staircase is simply and tastefully designed, and there were originally Japanese-style rooms at the back of the house, which have since been demolished. This architectural style of having a Western-style front and a Japanese-style rear reflects the lifestyle of Japanese officials in Taiwan at that time.
