Lintou Park Introduction
Lintou Park was established in 1946, when over 90,000 Casuarina equisetifolia trees were first planted along the Lintou coastline. By 1953, when the park was officially created, the trees had already formed a lush canopy. At the end of the entrance path on the right side stands the Martyrs' Shrine for military personnel, originally known as the "Penghu Military Cemetery," which was established in 1954 and is the earliest military cemetery in Taiwan. In 1986, it underwent renovations, transforming the main building into a three-story structure, which was completed in 1989. Inside the shrine’s archway is a monument inscribed with the phrase "The lofty spirit endures," written by Yu Dawei, the then Minister of National Defense during the 1958 Taipei-Matsu conflict. Notable military figures like Ji Xingwen, Zhao Jiaxiang, and Zhang Jie, who sacrificed their lives in the conflict, are commemorated here. Lintou Village is named after the abundant growth of Casuarina trees along the banks of the southeastern creek of the early settlement. It is said that the current Lintou Park and the large stretch of beach to the east were once covered in these trees. Casuarina trees are excellent for their wind resistance and sand stabilization, making them highly suitable for the unique climate of Penghu. Currently, only a small cluster remains in the northern section of the park, as most of the trees in other areas have been removed in favor of planting more Casuarina or other flowering plants. The beach at Lintou Park stretches over three villages—Jianshan, Lintou, and Aimen—totaling more than 3,000 meters, making it the longest beach in all of Penghu, embracing the coastline on the southern part of Huxi Township, offering magnificent views. The sand is dense and the waters are clear, creating a pristine "white coral fragment beach." For visitors, the path from Jianshan and Lintou to the southwest leads directly to the arc-shaped, slender beach of Aimen, making Lintou Park the most accessible and inviting spot to enjoy the ocean. The greenery, tranquility, pavilions, and wooden benches within the park provide an ideal place to rest and cool off after engaging in beach activities under the bright sun.
