Wang-an Green Sea Turtle Conservation Center Introduction
Near Tanmen Harbor, a building shaped like a sea turtle stands in the southeast of Wang-an Island. Inside the center, the natural ecology of Wang-an can be seen in its entirety, featuring migratory birds and conservation species, with the most important being the Green Sea Turtle. The exhibits include characteristics and distribution environments of the turtle species, as well as displays related to the folk activity of "Shangyuan Qigu," which involves praying for turtles. Notably, at the entrance of the exhibition hall is a stone tablet of the "Goodness and Charity Hall," which records that 130 years ago, local gentry in the Wang-an area raised funds to protect sea turtles and working cattle. The inscription stipulates subsidies to reward residents for showing compassion towards life, while also requesting the government to impose harsh penalties on violators, demonstrating a balance of grace and authority. This inscription has now become an important testimony to the early settlers' efforts in conserving the turtle ecology. Upon entering the Green Sea Turtle Conservation Center, the first sight is the exhibition hall, with a multimedia room on the right where a documentary about the Green Sea Turtle is screened every day from 10 AM to 4 PM at the top of the hour. Groups of more than 10 people can also book guided tours, making learning and visiting an intellectually stimulating experience.
