Wang-an Green Sea Turtle Conservation Center Introduction
Near Tanmen Harbor, a building resembling a sea turtle stands on the southeast side of Wang'an Island. Upon entering the center, visitors can appreciate the rich natural ecology of Wang'an, with migratory birds and protected species making appearances, and of course, the most important one, the green sea turtle. The exhibits include features for identifying turtle species and their habitats, as well as information about the folk belief activity "Shangyuan Qigu" (Wishing for Turtles). Notably, at the entrance of the exhibition hall stands the "Haoshantang" monument, which records that 130 years ago, local gentry in the Wang'an area raised funds to protect sea turtles and plowing oxen. The inscription clearly states that rewards were given to residents who showed compassion for life, while violators were subject to severe penalties, demonstrating a balance of kindness and authority. Today, this inscription serves as an important testimony to the early ancestors' commitment to the conservation of sea turtle ecology. Upon entering the Green Sea Turtle Conservation Center, the first thing that catches the eye is the exhibition hall, with an audiovisual presentation room on the right. Here, a documentary about green sea turtle ecology is shown daily at 10 AM and 4 PM. Groups of 10 or more can also reserve guided tour services, making the experience of learning and visiting both intellectually enriching and enjoyable.
