Lantau Island Folk Culture Museum Introduction
The Matsu Museum is located within the Elderly Welfare Activity Center. Currently, the first floor of the activity center serves as a hall for local residents to engage in leisure activities, such as karaoke. Additionally, it features a gym and meeting rooms, making it a multifunctional activity center. The exhibition hall is located on the second floor, and its purpose is to showcase "how the residents of Qimei Island have effectively utilized local materials to cope with daily life needs in a harsh natural environment over the years." The museum covers various aspects, including cooking utensils, dinnerware, food, clothing, architecture, settlements and living spaces, local culture and history, folk festivals, and Qimei medicinal plants. The goals of establishing the museum include using culture as the foundation for tourism to invigorate the local economy, preserving and promoting traditional culture, becoming a prime location for environmental education, enhancing cultural awareness among residents, enriching Qimei's tourism resources, and forming a local cultural industry, thus becoming a cultural hub for residents' lives and interactions. The museum's space includes exhibition rooms, a digital experience area, and a DIY creation area. After its opening, it will display a series of artifacts, flower tiles from the Japanese colonial period, and children's toys, highlighting the characteristics of ancient artifacts from Taiwan's islands. Additionally, the museum is equipped with computer facilities, allowing the public to access domestic and international information and events online anytime. In the future, it aims to develop in conjunction with Qimei's cultural features and its role as a tourism center. [Suggested visit duration] 1 hour.
