Mandarin Duck Cave,藏軍洞 Introduction
"Mandarin Duck Plays in Water - Mandarin Duck Cave" is located in the northeastern part of Wang-an Island. It is a natural valley terrain. According to legend, it got its name because there were many water caves in the area where mandarin ducks played and inhabited. Offshore, there is Saddle Islet, shaped like a saddle, which serves as a barrier, making it an important naval base for the Japanese military during the Japanese occupation. Among the remnants of history in the area is the "Cangjun Cave," which was constructed by the Japanese military in 1944, forcing the residents of Wang-an and Jiangjun Islands to dig it out. It served as a torpedo boat base for the navy and as a dormitory for special attack unit members. Just before the completion of the project, Japan announced its unconditional surrender, leading to the abandonment of the base. Many caves have already collapsed, but some remnants can still be vaguely seen.
