White Lighthouse Introduction
The White Lighthouse is located on the southern side of Liuqiu Island, on the western peak of the Hou'eshih Reef. It is an international lighthouse also known as "White Lantern Tower." Constructed in 1929, the base to the top of the tower is about 10 meters, with the horizontal surface to the top measuring 88 meters. It is equipped with an automatic flashing device for day and night use, serving as a navigation guide for fishing boats, similar to the Eluanbi Lighthouse in Kenting National Park. For enthusiasts who enjoy observing fireflies, this area is ideal for firefly watching from the vernal equinox to the end of autumn. As night falls, the grass piles on both sides of the lighthouse entrance are filled with twinkling ground stars, with fireflies lighting up the night. The male and female Taiwan fireflies are busy flashing their lights, illuminating the quiet midsummer. Meanwhile, the Formosan rock macaques and brown tree snakes are seen comfortably resting on the nearby banyan tree roots, showcasing their impressive climbing skills, which can’t help but bring a smile to onlookers.
