Tou She Basin Introduction

Toushe is an ancient settlement of the Tsou people, named because it is the first community that the Zhuoshui River enters into the Tsou territory. It is located in the southwestern part of the current Yuchi Township, neighboring Sun Moon Lake. The Toushe Basin is the third largest among many basins in Yuchi Township, covering an area of 1.7 square kilometers. The saying "Toushe rice, Shuishe fish" was passed down by the early residents of the Yuchi area, indicating that the land in the Toushe Basin is fertile and suitable for rice cultivation, with both yield and quality surpassing those of other villages, earning it the title of "rice granary of Yuchi Township." The bountiful rice harvest in the early days of the Toushe area once led to the presence of six large wooden rice mills, but now, due to industrial transformation, most have been abandoned or ceased operation, with only one remaining near the performance stage of Sansheng Temple, witnessing the golden age of rice in the Toushe Basin. Today, the agricultural industry in the Toushe area focuses on the cultivation of betel nuts and vegetables, making it a major vegetable production area in Yuchi Township, particularly known for its significant production of loofahs. In recent years, the local community development association has encouraged residents to pursue safe agricultural practices, yielding positive results.
