Toushe Basin Introduction
Toushe is an old settlement of the Saisiyat people, named because it is the first community to enter the territory of the Saisiyat via the Zhuoshui River. It is located in the southwestern part of today's Yuchi Township, neighboring Sun Moon Lake. The Toushe Basin is the third largest among the many basins in Yuchi Township, covering an area of 1.7 square kilometers. The saying "Toushe rice, Shuishe fish" reflects the fertile land suitable for rice cultivation in the Toushe Basin, with both quantity and quality exceeding that of other villages, earning it the title of "the rice granary of Yuchi Township." The abundant rice harvests in the early days led to the presence of six large wooden rice milling machines in the Toushe area. However, due to industrial transformation, most have been abandoned or ceased operation, with only one preserved next to the stage at Sansheng Temple Square, witnessing the golden age of rice in the Toushe Basin. Today, the rural industry in the Toushe area primarily focuses on planting betel nuts and vegetables, making it a major vegetable production area in Yuchi Township, especially for loofah. In recent years, the local community development association has encouraged residents to pursue safe agricultural development, achieving good results.
