Tou She Basin Introduction

Toushe is an ancient settlement of the Tsao tribe, named because it is the first village to enter the Tsao territory from the Zhuoshui River. It is located in the southwestern part of today's Yuchi Township, near Sun Moon Lake. The Toushe basin is the third largest among the many basins in Yuchi Township, covering an area of 1.7 square kilometers. The saying "Toushe rice, Shuishe fish" is a proverb passed down by the early residents of the Yuchi area, indicating that the land in the Toushe basin is fertile and suitable for rice cultivation, with both its yield and quality surpassing other villages, earning it the title of "the granary of Yuchi Township." The abundant rice harvests in the early days of Toushe saw the presence of six large wooden rice mills; however, due to industrial transformation, most of them have been abandoned or ceased operation, with only one remaining beside the stage in San Sheng Gong Square, witnessing the golden age of rice in the Toushe basin. Today, the agricultural industry in the Toushe area is primarily focused on cultivating betel nut and vegetables, making it a major vegetable production area of Yuchi Township, particularly for loofah. In recent years, the local community development association has encouraged residents to pursue safe agricultural development, yielding good results.
