Shuili Snake Kiln Introduction
Shueili Snake Kiln, located in Shueili Township, Nantou County, was established in 1927 and is one of the most well-preserved and oldest wood-fired kilns in Taiwan. The kiln's body stretches 31 meters in length, winding like a snake, and was an important site for firing everyday pottery in the past. The park integrates traditional pottery arts with tourism and leisure, allowing visitors to explore the ancient kiln and museum, appreciate the history of Nantou pottery, and engage in hands-on experiences like pottery-wheel throwing, hand-building, and painting. The on-site Taolin Art Gallery hosts exhibitions of works by domestic and international ceramic artists, and features unique souvenirs and pottery-themed dining, fulfilling the experience of "appreciating clay, playing with clay, and tasting clay." The annual Kiln God Festival is a significant local event that combines performances, craft markets, and blessing ceremonies, showcasing the cultural charm and vitality of this century-old kiln site.
