Niao Zhan Pavilion Trail Introduction
The Niao Zhan Pavilion Trail is a circular path built along the edge of the Dabang tribe, serving as a key route for the Tsou people to hunt or gather crops in the mountains, with abundant wildlife. The trail is often frequented by the "soothsaying bird," the white-browed shortwing, searching for food overhead. According to Tsou legends, before hunting or embarking on expeditions, members of the tribe would listen for the first bird call of the morning at the local pavilion. If the call is urgent, it signifies an ominous omen, suggesting that it's not a good day to go out. This bird-call divination ritual has been a long-standing tradition among the Tsou, thus giving the trail its name, "Niao Zhan Pavilion Trail." The trail is located at an altitude of over 1,100 meters, with lush trees on both sides, allowing visitors to absorb the phytoncides in the forest. The elevation change on the trail is minimal, taking about forty minutes to complete, making it suitable for family visits. It also offers the opportunity to visit the nearby meaningful Dabang "Kuba" and the mystically colored ritual house.
