The trail is under renovation, and the closure date is expected until June 30, 2025 (tentative). The Niao Zhan Pavilion Trail is circular and built along the edge of the Dabang Village, serving as a vital route for the Tsou people for hunting or gathering crops, rich in wildlife. The trail is often graced by the "fortune-telling bird" (Zosterops japonicus), which hovers in search of food. According to Tsou legend, before hunting or going to war, villagers would listen to the first bird call of the morning at a local pavilion; if the call is urgent, it signifies an ominous warning, advising against going out. This practice of bird-call divination has been a longstanding tradition among the Tsou people, hence the name "Niao Zhan Pavilion Trail." The trail is located at an altitude of over 1,100 meters, with lush forests on both sides, allowing visitors to enjoy the phytoncide of the forest. The trail features minimal elevation changes and takes approximately forty minutes to complete, making it suitable for family outings. Additionally, visitors can conveniently explore the nearby meaningful "Kuba" of Dabang and the mysterious ceremonial houses.

Niao Chian Pavilion Trail Introduction

The trail is under renovation, and it is expected to be closed until June 30, 2025 (tentative). The Niau Chhan Pavilion Trail is circular and built along the edge of the Dabang Village. It serves as a main route for the Tsou indigenous people to enter the mountains for hunting or gathering crops, teeming with wildlife. The trail often sees the "soothsayer bird," also known as the Japanese white-eye, circling and foraging. According to Tsou legend, before the tribe members would go hunting or on expeditions, they would listen for the first bird call in the local pavilion at dawn. If the sound was urgent, it represented ominous omens, and it was considered unwise to venture out. This practice of listening to bird calls for divination is a long-standing tradition among the Tsou, hence the name "Niau Chhan Pavilion Trail." The trail is situated at an elevation of over 1,100 meters, surrounded by lush trees and greenery. Strolling through it allows visitors to absorb the phytoncides from the forest. The elevation change is minimal, and the entire trail takes about forty minutes to complete, making it suitable for family outings. It also provides the opportunity to visit the nearby significant Dabang "Kuba" and the mysteriously colorful ritual houses.
