Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Introduction
The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is located on Provincial Highway 24 in Wutai Township and was established in 1959. It is also known as the Shenshan Catholic Church, located in the Shenshan village. The church is built with local slate, and its most distinctive feature is the human-shaped seats carved by local tribe members, all facing to the right, which is the direction of the sunrise, symbolizing hope. Inside the church, there is a beehive, which represents unity for the indigenous people, akin to a mother hen protecting her chicks; it signifies a leader sheltering the people beneath them, with villagers likened to the chicks under the wings. The beehive and its swarm are cherished and protected, embodying the spirit of teamwork and cooperation. It is recommended to spend about 30 minutes there. If you wish to visit, you must make an appointment with the Community Development Association in advance. To enter Wutai Township, you must obtain a mountain entry permit, and large buses are prohibited from entering.
