Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Introduction
The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is located on Provincial Highway 24 in Wutai Township and was established in the 48th year of the Republic of China. It is also known as the Shenshan Catholic Church since it is situated in the Shenshan village. The church is built with local slate and features unique human-shaped seats carved by local tribespeople, all oriented towards the right side, which is the direction of the rising sun, symbolizing hope. Inside the church, there is a honeycomb, which symbolizes unity for the Indigenous people, similar to how a hen protects its chicks, with a family head sheltering the people beneath, while the villagers are like the chicks under the wings. The bee colony within the honeycomb is cherished and protected, embodying the spirit of unity and cooperation. It is suggested to spend about 30 minutes here. If you wish to visit, please make an appointment with the Community Development Association in advance. To enter Wutai Township, a mountain entry permit is required, and access for Class A large buses is prohibited.
