Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Introduction
The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is located on Provincial Highway 24 in Wutai Township and was established in 1959. It is also known as the Shenshan Catholic Church, as it is situated in the Shenshan Village. The church is built using local slate, and its most distinctive feature is the human-shaped seats carved by local tribespeople, all facing to the right, which is the direction of the sunrise, symbolizing hope. Inside the church, there is a beehive, which represents unity for the indigenous people, much like how a hen protects its chicks, with a leader caring for the people beneath them, while the villagers are like the chicks under the wings. The beehive, with its buzzing bees, symbolizes love, protection, and a spirit of cooperation. It is recommended to spend about 30 minutes here. If you wish to visit, you must make an appointment in advance with the Community Development Association, and you need to obtain a mountain entry permit to enter Wutai Township. It is also prohibited for large passenger buses to pass through.
