Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral Introduction

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is located on Provincial Highway 24 in Wutai Township. Established in 1959, it is also known as the Shenshan Catholic Church because it is situated in the Shenshan Village. The church is made of local slate, and its most distinctive feature is the human-shaped seats carved by local tribespeople, all facing towards the right, which is the direction of the sunrise. This positioning symbolizes hope and the rising sun in the east. Inside the church, there is a beehive, which represents unity for the indigenous people, similar to how a hen protects its chicks. It signifies that a leader protects the people beneath them, with the villagers being like the chicks under their wings. The beehive and its bee colony are well-loved and protected, embodying the spirit of teamwork and cooperation. It is recommended to stay for about 30 minutes. If you wish to visit, you must make an appointment in advance with the Community Development Association. You also need to obtain a mountain entry permit to enter Wutai Township, and Class A large buses are prohibited from passing through.
