Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Introduction
The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is located on Provincial Highway 24 in Wutai Township and was established in 1959. Situated in the Shenshan Village, it is also known as Shenshan Catholic Church. The church is constructed from local slate, and its most distinctive feature is the human-shaped seating carved by local tribespeople, all facing to the right, in the direction of the rising sun, symbolizing hope with the dawn of a new day. Inside the church, there is a beehive, which represents unity for the indigenous people, akin to a mother hen protecting her chicks, with a patriarch safeguarding the people, and the villagers likened to chicks under the wings. The beehive symbolizes a well-loved and protected community, embodying the spirit of teamwork and collaboration. A recommended visit duration is about 30 minutes. Prior arrangements must be made with the community development association for visits, and a mountain entry permit is required to enter Wutai Township. Large tour buses are prohibited from passing through.
