Slate Alley Introduction

Yanshanshant (Rock Plate Alley) is located within the Wutai Village and is named for its entire path being paved with stone plates. The path follows the winding trail of a hundred-step snake and is adorned with ceramic pots along the sides. It is approximately 500 meters long, and during the tour of Yanshanshant, you can see three totems: “Lily,” “Hundred-step Snake,” and “Cloud Leopard,” which serve as guiding markers, making the exploration quite enjoyable. In front of houses, there are human-shaped sculptures, and various carvings on the door frames and walls represent the homes of commoners, hunters, elders, and chiefs. The carvings along the alley depict many stories, including women weaving, elders of the tribe with weathered faces, valiant hunting heroes, and hunters joyfully reporting their achievements. Observing these carvings not only provides insights into the daily lives of the Rukai people but also allows for appreciation of their artistic talents, making it the best introductory experience to Rukai culture. It is recommended to spend about an hour here. To enter Wutai Township, a mountain entry permit is required, and large buses are prohibited from passing through.
