Sanhe Tribe Introduction
Sanhe Village is located on County Road 37 in Ma Jia Township, Pingtung. In 1943, Pastor Joe Ai-Guang from the United States used resources from the Taiwan Christian Service (TCS) to assist the indigenous people from the nearby towns of Wu-tai, San-di-men, and Ma Jia to relocate and cultivate the land in Ai Liao. In 1967, the village's name was officially changed to "Sanhe Village" after a village assembly decision. Sanhe Village actually consists of three communities—North Village Yuchuan Community of the Paiwan people, Middle Village Sanhe Community of the Paiwan people, and South Village Meiyuan Community which is home to both the Paiwan and Rukai people. Many outstanding indigenous craft studios are located here, providing a chance to experience the indigenous culture and vitality. From April to June, the local production of native mangoes is abundant, and enjoying a mango smoothie is an excellent experience. It is recommended to spend about 1 hour visiting various unique workshops in the village or purchasing special souvenirs.
