Wanluan Pork Trotter Street Introduction
Wanjuan Township in Pingtung County is a simple and unpretentious small town, renowned throughout Taiwan for its Wanjuan pig's trotters. Especially along Minhe Road, there are numerous pig's trotter shops that create a unique local culture. The founder of Wanjuan pig's trotters, Lin Haihong, began selling danzi noodles at Wanjuan Market at night in 1945. Suddenly inspired, he switched to selling pig's trotters, which became extremely popular due to their excellent flavor. What makes Wanjuan pig's trotters famous across Taiwan is their special production process, as well as the unique garlic sauce and condiments used when served. The trotters are made exclusively from the front legs of pigs and are prepared with a special traditional Chinese medicine recipe, without any harmful additives like borax. The slow-cooked trotters have a crispy skin, tender and juicy meat, and are not greasy. The combination of skin, meat, and tendons offers a chewy yet slightly crunchy texture, making them very enjoyable, especially with the aromatic dipping sauce that enhances their unique flavor.
