Wanluan Pig's Trotters Street Introduction
Wanjian Township in Pingtung County is a simple little town, yet it is famous all over Taiwan for Wanjian pig's trotters. Especially on Minhe Road, there are many trotters shops lined up, forming a unique local culture. The founder of Wanjian pig's trotters, Lin Hai-hong, originally sold danzai noodles in the Wanjian market in 1945, but suddenly had a brilliant idea to start selling pig's trotters instead. Due to their exceptional flavor, they became extremely popular. The fame of Wanjian pig's trotters comes from a special cooking process, as well as a unique garlic dipping sauce and condiments when consuming the trotters. The trotters are made from the front limbs of pigs, prepared with a special Chinese medicinal secret recipe, without using harmful additives like borax. The trotters are simmered slowly to achieve a crispy skin texture, with tender and juicy meat that is not greasy. The skin, meat, and tendons have a chewy yet slightly crispy feel, making it very enjoyable, especially with the aromatic dipping sauce that adds a distinct flavor.
