Wanluan Pig's Trotter Street Introduction
Wanchuan Township in Pingtung County is a quaint little town, renowned across Taiwan for its Wanchuan Pork Knuckle. Particularly along Minhe Road, several pork knuckle shops line the streets, forming a unique local culture. The founder of Wanchuan Pork Knuckle, Lin Hai-hong, started selling danzai noodles at night in the Wanchuan market in 1945. Suddenly inspired, he switched to selling pig’s trotters, which became immensely popular due to their exceptional flavor. Wanchuan Pork Knuckle's fame across Taiwan comes from its unique production process and the distinctive garlic sauce and condiments served with the dish. The trotters are made exclusively from the front limbs of the pig and are prepared using a special herbal recipe, without the use of harmful additives such as boric acid. The meticulously simmered pork knuckles have a crispy outer skin and tender, juicy meat that is not greasy. The combination of skin, meat, and tendons provides a delightful balance of chewiness and crispness, enhanced by the savory dipping sauce, making it a truly unique delicacy.
