Lion's Head Mountain Park Introduction

Lion's Head Mountain, originally known as Jinshan Zhongzheng Park, is rich in geology and ecology, located at the Jinshan Cape that juts out into the sea. It has transformed from a former military coastal defense site into a scenic tourist destination. Due to its past as a controlled military area, the site has preserved much of its natural environment and unpolluted coastal landscape. From the top of Lion's Head Mountain, visitors can walk along the mysterious coastal trail to Shuizai Fishing Port. The trails at the summit and the sandstone foothills are home to a network of bunkers, barracks, fortifications, and two pavilions commemorating Chiang Kai-shek known as "Jiezi Pavilion," with well-preserved military buildings that silently narrate the brave history of being ever-ready for battle. Lion's Head Mountain stands at an elevation of approximately 70 meters, with lush trees providing shade. In spring and summer, flowers flourish, and birds sing. There are several viewing pavilions providing excellent views; to the east, one can see Yehliu Cape, while to the west lies Huanggang Fishing Port and the sea vista of Zhongjiao Mountain. Walking north along the trail, there is a traditional red pavilion, Zhongzheng Pavilion, from which the famous landmark of Jinshan, "Candlestick Islets," can be clearly seen across the northern sea. Located at the outlet of the Beihuang River, Huanggang Fishing Port was named during the Qing Dynasty for transporting sulfur. It has now been planned as a fishing port park. During fishing seasons, the night is illuminated by countless fishing lights reflecting against the starry sky, creating a delightful atmosphere. Shuizai Fishing Port's coastline is calm during the day, while at night, the sea surface mirrors the sky. When there is a full moon, the bright moonlight dancing on the sea creates a picturesque scene, allowing visitors to witness one of Jinshan's Eight Scenic Views, "Shuizai Fanyue." Lion's Head Mountain serves as a lookout point for the North Coast, embraced by two fishing ports on either side. From its high vantage point, one can fully appreciate the beauty of Jinshan's coastline and enjoy three major scenic wonders: the Candlestick Islets, Huanggang's fishing lights, and the moonlight reflecting on Shuizai, while also exploring unique military relics. This place is indeed not to be missed.
