Lion's Head Mountain Park Introduction

Lion's Head Mountain, originally named Jinshan Zhongzheng Park, is located at Jinshan Cape, which protrudes into the sea. It has transformed from a military maritime defense stronghold into a scenic tourist destination. Due to its previous status as a restricted military area, it has preserved much of its natural original environment and unpolluted coastal scenery. From the summit of Lion's Head Mountain, a mysterious coastal trail leads to Shuiwei Fishing Port, and at the mountain's peak, paths and the sandstone body boast a network of bunkers, barracks, artillery positions, and two pavilions commemorating Chiang Kai-shek, known as "Jiezi Pavilion." The well-preserved military structures silently narrate the brave history of a time when military readiness was paramount. Lion's Head Mountain stands at an elevation of about 70 meters, with lush forests on the mountain. In spring and summer, flowers bloom abundantly, filling the air with the sounds of birds and fragrant blooms. Scenic pavilions are installed throughout, offering excellent views — to the east, one can see Yehliu Cape, while to the west lies Huanggang Fishing Port and Zhongjiao Mountain with sea views. Walking north along the trail, one encounters a traditional red pavilion — Zhongzheng Pavilion, from where the famous landmark of Jinshan, "Candlestick Islets," is clearly visible on the northern ocean surface. Huanggang Fishing Port, located at the exit of the Beihuang River, was named during the Qing Dynasty due to its transportation of sulfur. It is now planned as a fishing port park. During fishing seasons, the flickering lights of fishing boats at night reflect beautifully against the starry sky, creating a delightful ambiance. The coast of Shuiwei Fishing Port is usually tranquil, and at night, the sea surface resembles a mirror. When a full moon shines overhead, its reflection on the sea creates a picturesque scene, showcasing one of Jinshan's Eight Scenic Views — "Shuiwei Pandao." Lion's Head Mountain serves as an observation point protruding from the northern coast of Jinshan, embraced by fishing ports on both sides. Standing high above, it offers breathtaking views of Jinshan's coastal beauty, allowing visitors to take in three major wonders: the Candlestick Islets, Huanggang Fishing Lights, and Shuiwei Pandao, while exploring unique military relics. This is truly a place that should not be missed.
