Lion's Head Mountain Park Introduction
Lion's Head Mountain, originally known as Jinsan Zhongzheng Park, is located at the prominent Jinsan Cape on the coastal area. This site has transformed from a military coastal defense location into a scenic tourist attraction. Due to its previous status as a heavily controlled military zone, it has preserved many natural and pristine ecological environments as well as unpolluted coastal landscapes. From the summit of Lion's Head Mountain, visitors can take the coastal mystical trail leading to Shuiwei Fishing Harbor. The top of the mountain features a network of bunkers, barracks, and artillery installations, along with two memorial pavilions named "Jiezi Pavilion" in honor of Chiang Kai-shek, which showcase well-preserved military architecture that silently narrates the brave history of being on constant alert. With an elevation of about 70 meters, Lion's Head Mountain is shaded by trees, and during spring and summer, the area is lush with blooming flowers and the songs of birds. There are several scenic pavilions offering excellent views; to the east, one can see Yehliu Cape, while to the west lies Huanggang Fishing Harbor and the ocean view of Zhongjiao Mountain. Walking north along the trail leads to a traditional red pavilion—Zhongzheng Pavilion—where the famous Jinshan landmark "Candleholder Islets" is clearly visible over the northern sea. Located at the mouth of Beihuang River, Huanggang Fishing Harbor was named for its sulfur transportation during the Qing Dynasty and is now planned as a fishing harbor park. During fishing seasons, the twinkling lights at night reflect beautifully against the starry sky, creating a cozy atmosphere. Meanwhile, Shuiwei Fishing Harbor is calm during weekdays, and at night, the sea resembles a mirror; when there is a full moon, the bright moonlight reflecting on the water creates a picturesque scene, also showcasing one of Jinshan's eight scenic spots, "Shuiwei Fan Yue" (Moonlight over Shuiwei). Lion's Head Mountain serves as an observation point that juts out from the North Coast, embraced by two fishing harbors on either side. For those wishing to fully appreciate the beauty of Jinshan’s coastline, this location offers a chance to experience three remarkable sights: the Candleholder Islets, the fishing lights of Huanggang, and Shuiwei Fan Yue, along with exploration of unique military relics. This place is indeed a must-visit.
