Beimen Salt Field has been rebuilt to showcase a new tourism appearance. Tainan City has two salt fields: Beimen and Qigu, which are quite different. Qigu Salt Field consists of land-based salt pans with the newest salt fields; Beimen Salt Field, on the other hand, is made up entirely of tile pan salt fields and is home to Taiwan's oldest operational salt field (the Jingzijiao Salt Field established in 1818). This salt field is located between the Jiuchia Creek to the south and the Sanliao Bay Creek to the north. Due to its long history and the rich experience of its salt workers, the quality of the salt produced here is renowned throughout Taiwan. The development of Qigu Salt Field, Anshun Salt Field, and Wushulin Salt Field all relied on the support of Beimen salt workers, making it a significant origin of salt production in Taiwan, just like the Xincuo Salt Field. In 2000, the new coastal expressway cut through the area, causing an earlier end to operations compared to other salt fields and severely damaging the scenic landscape of the salt fields. However, after being renovated into a tourist salt field, it now features a brand new appearance while retaining its historical charm.

Beimen Salt Field (Beimen Old Street Salt Fields) Introduction

Beimen Salt Fields, Reconstructed with a New Tourist Facade. Tainan City boasts two salt fields: Beimen and Qigu, which are vastly different. Qigu Salt Field features soil pan salt fields and the latest salt pans, while Beimen Salt Field consists entirely of tile pan salt fields, including the oldest existing salt field in Taiwan (the Jingzi Well Salt Field established in 1818). This salt field is located between the Jiushui River to the south and the Sanliao Bay River to the north. Due to its long history and experienced salt workers, the quality of salt produced here is acclaimed throughout Taiwan. The establishment of Qigu Salt Field, Anshun Salt Field, and Wushulin Salt Field all relied on the support of Beimen salt workers, making this location, like the Xincuo Salt Field, the ancestral home of Taiwan's salt-producing regions. In 2000, the newly constructed coastal expressway cutting through the area not only caused the salt field to close sooner than others but also severely damaged the scenery of the salt pans. Today, after being renovated and reconstructed as a tourist salt field, the old site has been given a brand new appearance.
