Beimen Salt Field, Renovating into a New Tourist Attraction Tainan City has two salt fields, Beimen and Qigu, which are distinctly different from each other. Qigu Salt Field consists of land salt pans and features the latest salt fields; Beimen Salt Field, on the other hand, is composed entirely of tile salt pans and has the oldest existing salt field in Taiwan (the Jingzijiao Salt Field established in 1818). This salt field is situated between the Jiushui River to the south and the Sanliaowan River to the north. Due to its long history and the abundant experience of salt workers, the quality of the salt produced here is renowned throughout Taiwan. The development of Qigu Salt Field, Anshun Salt Field, and Wushulin Salt Field all relied on the support of Beimen salt workers, making this area, like the Xincuo Salt Field, the origin of Taiwan's salt-producing region. In 2000, the newly built coastal expressway cut through the area, which not only caused an early closure of this salt field compared to others but also severely damaged the scenic view of the salt fields. Now, after renovations into a tourist salt field, the old site has a fresh new look.

Beimen Salt Field (Beimen Old Street North Salt Farm) Introduction

Beimen Salt Field, Rebuilding a New Look for Tourism Tainan City has two salt fields, Beimen and Qigu, which are quite different from each other. Qigu Salt Field consists of clay salt pans and features the latest salt production methods; Beimen Salt Field is made up entirely of tile salt pans and is home to the oldest operational salt field in Taiwan (the Jingzijiao Salt Field, established in 1818). This salt field is located between the Jishuei River to the south and the Sanliao Bay River to the north. Due to its long history and the rich experience of salt workers, the quality of salt produced here is renowned across Taiwan. The development of Qigu Salt Field, Anshun Salt Field, and Wushulin Salt Field all relied on the support of Beimen salt workers, making this area, along with the Xinzhuang Salt Field, the ancestral home of Taiwan's salt industry. In 2000, the new coastal expressway cut through the area, leading to an early end of operations at this salt field compared to others and causing significant damage to the salt field scenery. Now, after renovations for tourism, the old site has been revitalized with a fresh look.
