Qian Lai Ye Grocery Store Introduction
Qianlaiye Grocery Store was built in 1952 and is an old building with a traditional sloped-tile bungalow style. It was originally a welfare store for Taiwan Salt Corporation, providing daily necessities and recreational activities until the Beimen Salt Field ceased salt production, marking the end of the welfare store's operation. In 2003, French-trained architect Lin Ya-yin led a group of middle-aged and elderly unemployed individuals participating in a diversified employment program to initiate a transformation project, giving Qianlaiye Grocery Store a new significance in the modern era. After renovating the idle space, it features a strong local character, with the exterior walls decorated using discarded tiles, shells, and oyster shells from the area. A sign hanging in front of the store features a gold ingot, symbolizing business prosperity and a continuous flow of wealth. In 2005, the classic idol drama "Prince Turns into a Frog" was filmed on location here, setting Qianlaiye as the residence of the female lead. After the drama aired, it attracted many tourists to take photos. Currently, Qianlaiye sells a variety of children's toys and traditional snacks, evoking countless childhood memories for travelers.
