Niu Liao Pu Trail Introduction

The Niu Liaopu Trail connects with the Ying Han Mountain Trail, descending steeply to the right of the pavilion at the junction, famously known as the "1,300 steps." In terms of the Ying Han Mountain Trail, which stretches 1,563 meters to ascend to the elevation of 616 meters at Guanyin Mountain, the Niu Liaopu Trail completes this height in approximately 907 meters, which is only half its length, indicating a steep gradient. About 100 meters into the trail, a side path extends to a spot called "Zhong Le Yuan," which is built by hikers at a saddle point. The platform offers a breathtaking view of the Tamsui River estuary and the Datun volcanoes across the river, showcasing majestic sea and mountain landscapes that captivate all visitors. To the right of Zhong Le Yuan, the trail descends steeply, and approximately 300 meters later is the "Ivory Stone Viewing Platform," where the view is quite expansive, overlooking Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf, Shalun Beach, Fort San Domingo, the ferry terminal in Bali, and the old street of Tamsui. The trail then continues to descend steeply, with dense forest cover; the stone steps can be slippery at times, so caution is advised. Along the way, the Acacia trees have tall and sturdy trunks that often arch over the pathway, creating a spectacular sight. About 600 meters in, a pavilion has been built for a brief rest, where one can also gaze upon the Tamsui riverbank and the lush layers of Yangmingshan, with a refreshing breeze that invigorates the spirit, encouraging one to continue on the unfinished journey.
