Niu Liao Pu Trail Introduction

The Niu Liao Pu Trail connects with the Ying Han Ridge Trail, descending steeply to the right of the pavilion at the fork, famously known for its 1,300 steps. In comparison, the Ying Han Ridge Trail has a length of 1,563 meters and climbs to the elevation of 616 meters at Guanyin Mountain, while the Niu Liao Pu Trail achieves the height of Ying Han Ridge in just about 907 meters of its length, suggesting a very steep gradient. About 100 meters into the trail, a fork extends towards a spot called "Zhong Le Yuan," built by mountain friends at a saddle, where you can overlook the Tamsui River estuary and the Datun Volcano Group across the river, presenting majestic mountain and sea views that make you reluctant to leave. On the right side of Zhong Le Yuan, the trail descends for about 300 meters to the "Ivory Stone Observation Deck," which offers a broad view of places such as Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf, Shalun Beach, Fort San Domingo, Bali Ferry Terminal, and Tamsui Old Street. Subsequently, the trail continues to descend steeply, with dense forest cover; the stone steps can be slippery at times, requiring careful footing. Along the way, the acacia trees stand tall and robust, often arching over the trail, creating a spectacular sight. About 600 meters in, there is a pavilion where you can take a break and enjoy the view of the Tamsui Riverbank and the layered peaks of Yangmingshan, with a refreshing breeze that invigorates your spirit before you set off again to continue the journey ahead.
