Li Guangqian General Temple Introduction
The General Li Guangqian Shrine is a place where many soldiers who have served in Kinmen come to pray for smooth military service. It was established to honor Colonel Li Guangqian, who bravely fought and sacrificed his life during the Battle of Guningtou. Li Guangqian was from Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. In 1949, during the tense situation of the Battle of Guningtou, even when the Taiwanese military was at a disadvantage, Li Guangqian led his troops courageously into battle and unfortunately lost his life heroically. After the battle, local villagers, grateful for the soldiers' bravery in defending their country and people, set a time to hold memorials for the fallen soldiers outside the village, dedicating Li Guangqian as the main deity. His statue is dressed in a grass-green military uniform and wears a military hat with the emblem of the Blue Sky with a White Sun. The villagers regard him as the guardian of the ancient battlefield. In 1976, the Ministry of National Defense posthumously promoted Li Guangqian to Major General, and the local people later promoted him to Lieutenant General. In 1997, the shrine was once again planned and rebuilt to its current appearance, and a stone tablet was erected in front of the shrine to indicate that General Li Guangqian rests here. It is said that as long as the prayers are sincere, General Li will do his best to fulfill the wishes of the people, so if you visit Kinmen, consider paying your respects!
