Qionglin Combat Tunnel Introduction
The Qionglin Combat Tunnel, measuring 1,355 meters in length, is the largest civil defense tunnel in Kinmen. This complex network of tunnels is situated beneath Qionglin Village and has 12 entrances connecting to important buildings within the village, as well as access to the machine gun bunkers outside the village. The entrance is located directly beneath the Qionglin Village Office. The combat tunnel was built as a defensive installation during the standoff period across the Taiwan Strait and was completed in 1976. Inside the tunnel, there are command posts, machine gun embrasures, and water wells, all prepared for long-term combat. The dim lighting inside creates a somewhat disorienting visual effect, and the narrow, maze-like passageways lead to various areas. When visiting Qionglin, it's worth taking a personal walk through the Qionglin Combat Tunnel to experience the tense atmosphere of wartime and the labor that went into constructing the tunnels.
