Qionglin Combat Cave Introduction
The Qionglin Combat Tunnel, measuring 1,355 meters in length, is the largest civil defense tunnel in Kinmen. The intricate network of tunnels lies beneath Qionglin Village, featuring a total of 12 entrances that connect to significant buildings within the village and also lead to machine gun bunkers outside the village. The entrance is located directly beneath the Qionglin Village office. The Qionglin Combat Tunnel was constructed as a defensive facility for village combat during the standoff period between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and was completed in 1976. Inside the tunnel, there are command posts, machine gun emplacements, and wells, all designed to prepare for prolonged combat. The dim lighting within the tunnel creates a disorienting visual experience, as the narrow, maze-like pathways lead to various locations. When visiting Qionglin, taking a walk through the Qionglin Combat Tunnel offers a chance to experience the tense atmosphere of wartime and the labor involved in constructing the tunnels.
