Kiugong Tunnel Introduction
The most famous Jiugong Tunnel in Little Kinmen, like the Zhushan Tunnel in Greater Kinmen, is an underground military facility designed for secure military supply operations during wartime, constructed primarily from hard granite. The Jiugong Tunnel, completed in 1965, was excavated using simple equipment and manpower, featuring a double T-shaped waterway. It measures approximately 750 meters in total length, with the main tunnel being about 12 meters wide and 7 meters high, starting from Jiugong Pier and extending through the mountain to Luocuo Fishing Harbor. The wide and intricately constructed Jiugong Tunnel has four outlets to the sea and connects to five underground tunnels leading to the pier, allowing for the accommodation of 52 small boats. Now, free from the fears of wartime, the tunnel houses simulated wax figures to recreate the conditions of the tunnel excavation, allowing visitors to experience the hardships of the past.
