Li Jiangjun Temple (Shanglin Jiangjun Temple) Introduction
The General Li Temple is located in Shanglin Village on Little Kinmen, near the two major lakes of Little Kinmen - Xihu Lake and Lingshui Lake. It mainly worships General Li, the Officer of the Field, and the Guardian of the Boundary. It was built in the mid-Ming Dynasty. According to legend, General Li led the military and civilians to Little Kinmen for livestock farming and land reclamation, showing love for the people and nature. With his divine power, he could summon tree leaves as weapons and successfully repelled pirates, winning the affection of the locals. Later generations built temples at the landing site he once arrived and at places frequently disturbed by pirates, both to ward off evil and to commemorate his righteous deeds. It is said that during the August 23 Artillery Battle, when Little Kinmen was bombarded heavily, the General Li Temple remained unscathed, which is remarkable. In front of the temple, there are large banyan trees and casuarinas, making it a pleasant spot for shade and relaxation in the summer, while also offering a sea view. In front lies Shanglin Beach, equipped with pavilions and viewing bridges, making it the best spot to gaze toward the mainland, with a broad view that includes nearby islands such as Dadun, Erdan, and Lion Islet.
