Atayal people can create a variety of intricate patterns using just a simple loom and two weaving techniques, which sparks curiosity and admiration. As a woman of the Atayal tribe, watching my grandmother’s wrinkled face and deep-set eyes, focused and skillfully weaving beautiful patterns, left an unforgettable impression. The memories of her gaze linger in my mind, and the tactile experience of handwoven textiles evokes deep emotions when I gaze upon the weaving. This craftsmanship combines traditional weaving with modern cutting techniques, utilizing dark traditional colors to showcase the deep eyes of our ancestral spirits, enabling me to feel their warmth at all times. The horizontal stripes of weaving are now seen as rainbows, symbolizing the path to reunite with our ancestors. The diamond pattern represents the eyes of our ancestors, protecting the tribe. We combine indigenous motifs with leather to produce unique products such as wallets and bags.
