With just a simple loom and two weaving techniques, the Atayal people can create various intricate patterns, evoking curiosity and admiration. As an Atayal woman, I grew up watching my grandmother, her face lined with wrinkles and her deep-set gaze focused, skillfully using her nimble hands to weave beautiful patterns. The unforgettable gaze is always lingering in my mind, and as I grew up, the sensation of handcrafted textiles and the emotions tied to watching the weaving process left a lasting impact. Specially crafted through hand weaving and combining modern tailoring methods, the traditional dark color tones express the profound eyes of our ancestral spirits, allowing me to always feel their warmth. The horizontal stripes of weaving are now viewed as a rainbow, symbolizing the path to reunite with our ancestors. The diamond patterns symbolize the eyes of our ancestors, protecting the tribe. By incorporating indigenous motifs with leather, we produce distinctive products such as wallets and bags.
