Taoyuan City's Sixth Edition of the Top Ten Souvenirs - Atayal Warrior Tie Taoyuan City's Eighth Edition of the Top Ten Souvenirs - Spirit of Ancestor - Long Wallet and Coin Purse Among all the indigenous peoples of Taiwan, the Atayal tribe is most renowned for its weaving. Using a simple loom and two weaving techniques, Atayal people can create a variety of intricate patterns, evoking curiosity and admiration. As an Atayal woman, I watched my grandmother, her face lined with wrinkles and her deep-set eyes focused, skillfully interweaving threads to create beautiful designs. Her unforgettable gaze lingers in my mind. As I grew up, the tactile sensation of handmade fabric and the emotion inspired by observing the weaving process left a lasting impact on me. By combining traditional weaving techniques with modern cutting methods, I aim to present the deep eyes of ancestral spirits through traditional dark color palettes, allowing me to feel the warmth of my ancestors at all times. The horizontal stripes in the woven fabric now symbolize a rainbow, which serves as a pathway to reconnect with our ancestors. The diamond patterns represent the eyes of our ancestors, watching over the tribe. We integrate indigenous symbols with leather materials to produce unique items such as wallets and bags.
