Xiaowulai Sky Bridge Introduction
Xiao Wulai Scenic Area is located in the eastern mountain region between Xiayunping and Fuxing Bridge along the North Cross-Island Highway, and it is one of the well-known attractions along the route. While visiting the scenic area, in addition to cherry blossom viewing, waterfall observation, and water play along the shore, one must not miss Taiwan's first transparent sky walk. Another newly emerged attraction within the Xiao Wulai Scenic Area is the Sky Rope Bridge, which was inaugurated on Valentine's Day with the full support of the Taoyuan City Government. This aims to provide every visitor with a close-to-nature experience, a moment of peace, and nostalgia for first love, creating beautiful memories. Currently, the most popular spot in Xiao Wulai Scenic Area is undoubtedly the thrilling "Sky Walk," where visitors can experience the excitement of walking above the waterfalls and chasms. After bidding farewell to the Sky Walk, a mere five-minute walk leads to the "Sky Rope Bridge." This newly opened rope bridge, fixed by a steel cable at the bottom, spans 70 meters across the Dali Canyon at a height of about 50 meters above the ground, providing an exhilarating adventure that feels like an upgraded version of the Xiao Wulai Sky Walk 2.0. Opened in 2015, the Sky Rope Bridge differs from the Sky Walk, which challenges visual limits with transparent glass; it allows only one person at a time on its approximately one-meter-wide walkway. Although the structural design was initially planned to support a weight of 120 tons and includes additional wind-resistant cables to minimize swaying during strong winds, the main cable of the rope bridge is installed below the walkway, as opposed to the above placement at the Sky Walk. Coupled with the synchronized steps of visitors, walking on the suspension bridge feels particularly wobbly, creating the sensation of swinging between the mountains, with the canyon floor right beneath. The height of the steel cables reaches about chest level, offering visitors unobstructed views of the lush forest scenery, providing a unique high-altitude challenge. In addition to the thrilling experience of crossing the deep valley on the Sky Rope Bridge, the waterfall scenery is also one of the beautiful sights worth visiting. As you reach the mid-point of the rope bridge, you can first gaze down at the "Mysterious Waterfall" hidden in the valley. Since the rope bridge only allows one-way passage, the other end leads to the "Yixing Suspension Bridge" and "Dragon and Phoenix Waterfall." If you want to build some leg strength, you can choose to take a round trip of about one and a half hours along the "Shuizhun Historic Trail" leading to the "Yixing Suspension Bridge." Alternatively, a shorter visit can be made to the "Dragon and Phoenix Waterfall," which requires only twenty minutes for the return trip. The waterfall comprises two levels; the upper level is the approximately 13-meter tall "Longgu Waterfall," while the lower level is the approximately 9-meter tall "Fenggu Waterfall." The negative ions and phytoncides emanating from the cascading waters provide a refreshing immersion in nature.
