After the Japanese occupation, due to the favorable soil conditions for growing high-sugar cane near Baoshan, Xincheng became one of Taiwan's important sugar production areas. Over a decade ago, Xincheng was still home to vast sugarcane fields, where sugarcane was transported by cart to the sugar factory, transforming into fragrant, sweet brown sugar.
