Ming De Tang Herbal Shop

Taipei Foods

In Xizhi, the abundance of raw materials for incense production, particularly cypress wood, took advantage of local resources, leading to the transformation of an inn into an incense shop, which is now known as Ming De Tang Incense Shop. In the early days of incense making, acquiring the raw materials was no easy task. The machine used for grinding the incense ingredients was a massive iron barrel filled with countless small iron balls. After placing the traditional Chinese medicinal herbs inside, the collision of the iron balls would turn them into incense powder. The incense master would begin each day by checking the weather; if the sun was shining, a half-day of drying would suffice. A skilled master could produce up to a hundred jins of incense in a single day.
