Ming De Tang Incense Shop

Taipei Foods

In Xizhi, there used to be a rich supply of raw materials for incense-making, specifically the Taiwan Fokienia (or Shaw Wood). Taking advantage of this local resource, the inn was soon transformed into an incense shop, which is the origin of the current Ming De Tang Incense Shop. In the early days, obtaining incense materials was not easy. The machinery for incense-making was a large iron barrel filled with countless small iron balls. After placing the herbal materials inside, the iron balls would collide to turn them into incense powder. The master incense maker's first task each day is to check the weather; if the sun helps to dry for half a day, that is sufficient. A skilled master can produce up to a hundred jin of incense in a day.
