Dong Mao Restaurant Introduction
Dongmao Restaurant has been operating for over 20 years. Mr. Hsieh Mao is the founder of the "Lotus Seed Feast" in Baihe. Since he was born in Dongshan Township and his name happens to include the character "Mao," the restaurant was named Dongmao. He became an apprentice at the age of 13 and has been working in the restaurant industry for over 60 years. Now, his son (the second generation) continues the family legacy. Sometimes, he tirelessly comes to the restaurant to supervise quality control and hygiene. In 1994, the Baihe Township Farmers' Association expanded the Lotus Seed Feast, and together with the head of the home economics class (his wife) and Chef Hsieh Mao from Dongmao Restaurant, they meticulously designed more than ten exquisite lotus seed banquet dishes, serving 120 tables to over a thousand visitors who came from all over Taiwan. The Baihe District has its peak lotus seed production season from May to August. To promote local specialties, the Farmers' Association holds tasting events for lotus seeds. Lotus seeds have high utility value and can be used in dishes that are sweet, savory, hot, or cold. Since every part of the lotus plant can be utilized, such as lotus leaves, lotus seeds, lotus flowers, lotus roots, and lotus stems, delicious dishes can be made from them.
