Dong Mao Restaurant Introduction
Dongmao Restaurant has been in operation for over 20 years. Mr. Hsieh Mao is the founder of the "Lotus Seed Feast" in Baihe. He was born in Dongshan Township, and since his name includes the character "Mao," he named the restaurant "Dongmao." He started as an apprentice at the age of 13 and has been working in the food industry for over 60 years. Now, his son (the second generation) continues the legacy, and sometimes he diligently oversees quality control and hygiene at the restaurant. In 1994, the Baihe Township Farmers' Association, in order to expand the Lotus Seed Feast event, collaborated with the home economics class leader (his wife) and Dongmao Restaurant's chef (Hsieh Mao) to meticulously design more than ten exquisite lotus seed dishes, serving 120 tables for over a thousand visitors from all over Taiwan to enjoy. The Baihe District's peak lotus seed production season is from May to August. To promote Baihe's local specialty, the Farmers' Association frequently organizes lotus seed tasting events. Lotus seeds have high culinary value and can be used in a variety of dishes, whether sweet or savory, hot or cold. The entire lotus plant is utilized, with delicious dishes made from lotus leaves, lotus seeds, lotus flowers, lotus roots, and lotus stems.
