UCC Ueshima Coffee Introduction
With a nostalgic aroma of coffee, Shangdao Coffee was born in 1979 through a series of fortuitous events. Here, you can listen to the history of the evolution of beverage business in Taiwan, taste freshly roasted single-origin coffees, and appreciate the changes of the times. This is a classic of Chiayi and a testament to continuous progress. Owner Wu Yizheng recalls entering the roasting coffee industry over 30 years ago, when very few people understood the art of coffee. Driven by passion and vision, he persisted through the era of bubble tea's popularity, but thanks to the strength built from years of expertise in coffee and beverage ingredients, he seized the opportunity to innovate and transform, leading to today’s coffee drinks and dining department stores. Many stories of Chiayi people have unfolded here; through a cup of coffee, countless beautiful memories have accompanied them. After more than 30 years of diligent effort, Wu has become a master roaster in Chiayi, insisting that the coffee beans on the shelves are always freshly roasted within seven days. He meticulously selects the raw materials and brewing equipment, creating not just a place to sell coffee, but a space to share and savor coffee. The spacious and bright venue encourages patrons to enjoy engaging conversations and genuine connections over their cups. In recent years, Shangdao Coffee has been leading the local coffee culture trend, offering various educational courses, hoping to assist local Chiayi farmers in developing their own roasting techniques, branding, and marketing. Together with like-minded small farmers, they aim to expand Chiayi's coffee culture industry. Periodically, they host coffee aesthetics sharing sessions, likening coffee-making to an art form—each beautiful coffee brewing process is a lifestyle art for every coffee artisan, blending visual, olfactory, gustatory, and literary enjoyment. The experience is smooth down the throat, leaving a warm and rich taste in the mouth, evoking memories of many Chiayi residents' lives. Recommended dishes: Hand-brewed coffee, siphon coffee.
