Doujiou Bar Introduction

The nearly 70-year-old building that serves as the bar, known as Dou Jiu, has a history as a rattan furniture store. Located at the intersection of Chengren Street and Lanjing Street, this area once thrived with suit shops, furniture stores, and quilt shops, but these industries have gradually declined over time and were on the verge of fading from the memories of the locals. Fortunately, the arrival of new dining establishments has revitalized the area, making it a new focal point in Chiayi City. The name "Dou Jiu" is a homophone in Taiwanese, meaning "pouring wine." The bartender often refers to himself as "Ba Tian De" on the fan page, with posts that have a warm and humorous style. Although it is an old house bar, it follows a cheerful theme, frequently hosting gatherings for friends, colleagues, and students. Ba Tian De himself says that while private events can lead to a lively atmosphere, he finds it adorable when patrons become too relaxed and lose control! The most popular cocktail is the "Amber," which is made with vodka as the base, combined with Alishan oolong tea, Wenshan Pouchong tea, honey, and sparkling water. This "tea cocktail" showcases local characteristics, has a lower alcohol content, and is easy for most people to enjoy. When visiting Dou Jiu, be sure to order their signature appetizers: truffle fries and chicken wings. Image source: Chiayi City Government Tourism News Office | Photographer: Marg.
