Hongya Study Room Introduction
Hongya Bookstore is located near Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway. The bookstore offers a collection of books on indigenous peoples, environmental ecology, the Pingpu people, Taiwanese literature, cultural reflection, history during the Japanese colonial period, as well as dedicated sections on cats and browsing bookstores. Every Wednesday, Hongya Bookstore hosts lectures that have been ongoing without interruption. The owner uses the bookstore as a base to engage in various cultural heritage preservation efforts in the Chiayi area, including the Taiwan Library and Yushan Inn, and mobilizes citizen participation in parades related to environmental or cultural issues. Hongya claims to be the most active social movement bookstore south of the Zhuoshui River, and in fact, it is the independent bookstore most closely tied to social movements across Taiwan.
