Hongya Study Introduction
Hongya Bookstore is located near the Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway. The store features sections dedicated to Indigenous peoples, environmental ecology, the Pingpu people, Taiwanese literature, cultural reflections, the history of the Japanese colonial period, as well as themes like cats and bookstore browsing. Every Wednesday, Hongya Bookstore hosts lectures, which have never been interrupted to date. The owner uses the bookstore as a base to engage in cultural heritage preservation efforts in the Chiayi area, including the Taiwan Library Project and the Yushan Hotel, and mobilizes citizens to participate in environmental and cultural issue parades. Hongya claims to be the most active social movement bookstore south of the Zhuoshui River, but in fact, it is the independent bookstore most closely connected with social movements in Taiwan.
