Hongya Study Introduction
Hongya Bookstore is located near the Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway. The bookstore features sections dedicated to indigenous peoples, environmental ecology, Pingpu culture, Taiwanese literature, cultural reflections, the history of the Japanese colonial period, as well as cats and browsing in bookstores. Every Wednesday, Hongya Bookstore hosts lectures without interruption. The owner uses the bookstore as a base to carry out various cultural heritage preservation efforts in the Chiayi area, such as the Taiwan Reading Room and Yushan Hostel, and mobilizes civic participation in parades addressing environmental or cultural issues. Hongya claims to be the most active social movement bookstore south of the Zhuoshui River, and in reality, it is the independent bookstore most closely connected to social movements across Taiwan.
