Hongya Study Introduction
Hongya Bookstore is located near the Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway. The bookstore offers a collection of books focused on Indigenous peoples, environmental ecology, Pingpu culture, Taiwanese literature, cultural reflections, history during the Japanese colonial period, as well as special sections on cats and browsing bookstores. Every Wednesday, Hongya Bookstore holds lectures without interruption to this day. The owner uses the bookstore as a base to engage in various cultural heritage preservation efforts in the Chiayi area, such as the Taiwan Library and Yushan Inn, while also mobilizing citizens to participate in parades related to environmental or cultural issues. Hongya claims to be the most active social movement bookstore south of the Zhuoshui River, and in reality, it is the independent bookstore most closely connected to social movements in Taiwan.
