Hongya Study Introduction
Hongya Bookstore is located near the Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway. The store features sections dedicated to indigenous peoples, environmental ecology, the Pingpu people, Taiwanese literature, cultural reflections, the history of the Japanese colonial period, as well as cats and bookstore browsing. Every Wednesday, Hongya Bookstore holds lectures without interruption. The owner uses the bookstore as a base to engage in various cultural heritage preservation efforts in the Chiayi area, including the Taiwan Reading Room and Yushan Hostel, and mobilizes citizen participation in parades concerning environmental or cultural issues. Hongya claims to be the most active social movement bookstore south of the Zhuoshui River, and in fact, it is the independent bookstore most closely connected to social movements throughout Taiwan.
