Hongya Study Introduction
Hongya Bookstore is located near the Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway. The bookstore offers a selection of books covering topics such as Indigenous peoples, environmental ecology, the Pingpu tribe, Taiwanese literature, cultural reflection, the Japanese colonial period, as well as sections dedicated to cats and browsing bookstores. Every Wednesday, Hongya Bookstore hosts lectures that have never been interrupted. The owner utilizes the bookstore as a base to engage in various cultural heritage preservation efforts in the Chiayi area, including Taiwan's Library and Yushan Inn, and mobilizes citizen participation in demonstrations regarding environmental or cultural issues. Hongya claims to be the most active social movement bookstore south of the Zhuoshui River and is, in fact, one of the most closely connected independent bookstores to social movements in Taiwan.
