For Yunnan families, no meal is complete without pickled vegetables; they are natural fermented foods and healthy products. Among them, shrimp paste is an essential ingredient in every household in Myanmar. Although it comes in a small bottle, it has a long history. Legend has it that one year, an emperor passing through a rural household found no dishes on the table, only rice accompanied by shrimp paste. Curious, he joined in the meal, and upon returning to the palace, he found the palace food tasteless.
