Mashagou Wu's Oyster Omelette Introduction
This 37-year-old stall is hidden in front of the Zhuang Temple Li Sheng Gong Temple. It doesn't have a sign, but food enthusiasts know that "Wu's Oyster Cakes" in Matsu is made with quality ingredients and is economically affordable. From time to time, locals bend in for a tasty treat. Many residents of Matsu have grown up eating here; when they get married or move abroad, they always make a stop at the temple to indulge in a piece or two when they return home. The owner, Wu Chen Hsiu Li, originally a housewife, wanted to start a business to supplement the family's income shortly after the birth of her youngest child. Given that Matsu produces oysters and seafood, she thought about selling oyster cakes. Wu Chen Hsiu Li started by sampling oyster cakes everywhere and observed how vendors set up their stalls, prepared ingredients, and fried the cakes. After experimenting and researching at home, she learned to fry oyster cakes on her own. She set up her stall in front of the Zhuang Temple Li Sheng Gong Temple, and during the height of the old fishing port's prosperity in Matsu, with its rich fishing grounds, fishmongers, anglers, and tourists from various places would come to the temple for oyster cakes. They would return and share with friends and family, and thanks to word of mouth, "Wu's Oyster Cakes" became widely known.
