Siwei Village Sunset Trail Introduction
Siwei, formerly known as Xiyu, derives its name from its location on the western tip of Nangan Island, as "Xiyu" sounds similar to "Siwei." It wasn't until the military began to garrison the area that it was renamed "Siwei." Due to population outflow, Siwei has become increasingly desolate, with only 3 or 4 households remaining. On weekdays, the village is exceptionally quiet, embodying an undeniable sense of desolation and solitude. After the military retreated to Matsu, more residents moved away, leading to the village's abandonment. After the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration established a presence in Matsu, and recognizing that many visitors come to enjoy the sunset, the "Siwei Sunset Trail," also known as the "Qiu Gui Mountain Trail," was constructed along the already expanded road. This trail not only provides locals a place for walks but has also become one of the best spots for tourists to watch the sunset and for photography enthusiasts to capture stunning visuals.
