Nangan Traditional Settlement and Siwei Seascape Traveling a bit further north from Matsu Village, you arrive at the westernmost end of Nangan Island, known as "Xiwai." This is one of the few well-preserved villages in Nangan. It was once the office of Lin Yihe, a legendary figure from Matsu. At that time, troops were stationed here, and a power plant and rice mill were built within the village, which spurred the prosperity of Siwei Village. However, it gradually declined, and today only a few households reside in the village. Many areas remain partially restored, preserving more of the original appearance. Siwei Village has a simple character, situated against Qiu Gui Mountain and facing the coast, adorned with fishing sails dotting the seascape. The view is absolutely charming, especially at sunset, which is renowned as "Xiwai Sunset." The Matsu Fisheries Experiment Station, originally located at the entrance of Furong Bay in Siwei Village, was the base for developing aquaculture in Matsu, famous especially for its green-lipped mussels. Through the cultivation methods developed by the Experiment Station, along with favorable natural conditions, green-lipped mussels have become an indispensable delicacy on Matsu's dining tables, and tasting this fresh flavor is a must when visiting Matsu. In 2018, the Fisheries Experiment Station was converted into the Blue Tears Ecology Museum, which also engages in the cultivation of the blue tears phenomenon. This is one of the few well-preserved traditional settlements in Nangan. The former office of the legendary figure from Matsu, Lin Yi-He, still remains. In the past, troops were stationed here, and facilities such as a power plant and rice mill were built, which boosted the prosperity of Siwei Village. However, it gradually fell into decline, and today only a few households still reside here, with many areas yet to be fully restored, preserving more of its original appearance. Siwei Village presents a simple landscape, nestled against Qiugui Mountain and facing the coast, with fishing sails dotting the sea, creating a charming scene. The sunset near this area is particularly breathtaking, earning it the beautiful nickname "Xiwei Sunset."
