Shengtian Park Introduction
Shengtian Park, located between Magang and Jinsha Village on the west slope of Yuntai Mountain, is adjacent to the Chushui Ao Reservoir and spans over ten hectares. Planned along a coastal route, it serves as a representative seaside park of the Matsu area. Next to Chushui Ao Reservoir stands a Tang-style pavilion, Shengtian Pavilion, built by the stationed troops in 1990. It mainly references the architectural style of the Zhi Shan Garden in Taipei's Waishuangxi and adopts a Song Dynasty garden style with its original wood frame and gray ceramic tiles, beautifully integrating the landscape of mountains and sea, presenting a rustic and elegant beauty. After the wooden structure was damaged by pests, the Matsu management office restored it to its original appearance in 2004, giving it new life and highlighting it beneath the lush greenery, akin to a Jiangnan garden, exuding refined charm. From the dam bridge, one can enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and sea, with pathways leading down to the coast. Within Shengtian Park, there is a forest of Taiwan beech trees, which nurtures a variety of native Matsu plant species amidst the woods. The ancient pavilion features winding corridors, and the ridge rises high. Each winter to early spring, when the new leaves begin to sprout, the red leaves of the sweetgum trees dot the entire mountain forest; surrounded by ancient pines, it provides an escape from the hustle and bustle. Ascending the stone steps, one feels the beauty of “finding tranquility in the mountains.” At night, one can also count the stars and listen to the crashing waves, filled with poetic sentiment.
