Sheng Tian Park Introduction
Shengtian Park, located between Magang and Jinchashan Village, is situated on the western slope of Yuntai Mountain, adjacent to the Chushuiwei Reservoir. Covering an area of over ten hectares, it is designed along a coastal military road, representing a seaside park in the Matsu region. Beside the Chushuiwei Reservoir stands a Tang-style pavilion—Shengtian Pavilion, built by the military in 1990. This pavilion, mainly inspired by the architectural style of the Zhi-Shan Garden in Taipei’s Waishuangxi, features a Song dynasty garden style with original wooden structures and gray ceramic tiles for the roof, blending into the mountain and sea landscape, showcasing an ancient elegance. Due to insect damage, the wooden structure started to decline, but in 2004, the Matsu Administration restored it to its original appearance, breathing new life into it amid the lush greenery, resembling a garden in Jiangnan with its refined charm. From the bridge above, one can enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and sea, with access to the coast below. Within Shengtian Park, there is a forest of Taiwan beech trees, which also nurtures a diversity of endemic Matsu plant species within the thickets. The ancient pavilion has a winding corridor and an elevated roof; as winter ends and early spring arrives, the budding leaves and the red leaves of the sweetgum trees adorn the whole forest. Surrounded by towering ancient pines, it provides a peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle. Climbing up the stone steps fills one with a sense of tranquil solitude. At night, one can also count the stars overhead and listen to the sound of waves lapping against the shore, filled with poetic sentiment.
