Eastern Handicrafts Museum Introduction
Hsiung Yi Enterprises was established in 1985. In its early years, it engaged in exporting jewelry manufacturing, including tassel ornaments, Christmas decorations, and traditional crafts. In recent years, it has combined traditional Chinese craftsmanship, such as paper cutting, weaving, and embroidery, with Taiwan’s silk and thread wrapping techniques to develop a unique art form known as "Eastern Twine" (東方纏). "Eastern Twine" features Eastern themes, integrating techniques from "Min Nan Spring Flower" and "Hakka Twine Flower" into creations that reflect Taiwan's distinctive cultural traits. Currently, "Eastern Twine" can be categorized into classical cultural arts, exquisite fashion accessories, and various framed artworks. Whether worn or displayed at home, these creations exemplify a fashionable and elegant aesthetic, making them perfect for collection or gifting. The fundamental technique of "Eastern Twine" lies in wrapping, where achieving a refined appearance of the silk threads requires a state of "Zen." This means one must be calm and patient, layering the threads slowly to create a smooth and glossy silk-like texture. "Eastern Twine" pieces are crafted based on this wrapping technique, infused with elements of fashionable luxury goods, presenting a blend of "tradition" and "innovation" in Taiwanese cultural products. We hope to transform Taiwan's cultural products into international fashion items; this was the initial concept behind the design of "Eastern Twine" and remains our company’s objective. "Eastern Twine" is purely a handcrafted art piece, possessing both local and artistic significance, making it a collectible and practical Taiwanese souvenir. The "Spring Flower" (春仔花) is a traditional craft created by women in the Min Nan community. It is mainly worn during weddings, festivals, and celebrations as a symbol of good fortune. In traditional Min Nan weddings, not only does the bride wear the "Spring Flower," but other female relatives also adorn themselves with different "Spring Flower" hair accessories, symbolizing a wish for a harmonious and lasting marriage. As the "Spring Flower" is carefully wrapped by hand stitch by stitch, it can be preserved after the wedding as a keepsake for future generations. Different shapes of the "Spring Flower" represent different meanings. Due to the homophonic nature of the word "spring" (春) with "surplus" (剩) in Min Nan dialect, wearing a "Spring Flower" during festivals, birthdays, and celebrations is believed to bring continued happiness and good fortune. Additionally, during New Year’s rituals, a pair of "Rice Spring Flowers" is placed on decorated rice, wishing for "abundance year after year" and "wealth and auspiciousness," representing yet another aspect of the "Spring Flower." To this day, "Spring Flowers" can be categorized into: Kinmen Spring Flower, Lugang Spring Flower, and Northern Taiwan Spring Flower. Though their shapes differ, their auspicious meanings remain the same. The meanings of twelve types of Spring Flowers are as follows: - Lily Flower - a hundred years of harmony - Five Fortunes Flower - five blessings arrive - Pomegranate Flower - many children and grandchildren - Chrysanthemum Flower - success in exams - Peony Flower - wealth - Round Flower - completeness - Tortoise - longevity - Carnation - harmonious virtue - Deer - promotion and good fortune - Butterfly - overlapping good fortune - Plum Blossom - auspiciousness - Magnolia Flower - fragrant and virtuous. The only twine craft museum in Taiwan is located in an alley, featuring a purely handcrafted workshop. Here, you'll experience a striking aesthetic contrast between the newly renovated old house and its surroundings. The space lacks modern, elaborate decorations, showcasing a simple yet elegant visual serenity. The spacious area combining Western and Eastern styles displays products like works of art, providing a comfortable viewing experience. The Eastern Twine Craft Museum spans two floors: the first floor serves as a sales area for art pieces, while the second floor features large framed artworks, exhibitions, and DIY activities. The products themselves provide insight into the brand's continuity, but we pay great attention to how product packaging reflects the value of the "Eastern Twine" brand. The packaging is elegantly presented in a subdued deep purple with a black background to highlight the delicacy of the products. "We want everyone purchasing our products to see them carefully protected and hope that customers can preserve these 'precious' items at home." The second floor offers a more spacious exhibition area featuring large framed artworks and other pieces integrating twine art. Interested in experiencing the craft of twine-making? Come visit the twine craft museum and DIY your very own twine art pieces; there are suitable classes for both adults and children. It’s definitely a great place for family outings!
