Su'ao Harbor Introduction
Su'ao Harbor is located at the exit of the Lanyang Tunnel, formerly known as Donggang. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the Pacific Ocean to the east, it is a strategically important natural harbor embraced by Nanfang'ao and Beifang'ao. Historically, it has been one of the commercial ports driving the prosperity of Lanyang and later transformed into an international trade port, becoming an important import and export hub, as well as a miraculous construction project completed over a decade through land reclamation. Before you arrive at Su'ao Harbor, you should know about the legendary scenery known as the "Su'ao Mirage Market," which is one of the eight scenic spots of Lanyang. Due to the broad harbor area, when the sea is calm in spring and summer, the reflection of ships and stalls in the water creates the illusion of palaces in the air, resembling a celestial realm. At sunset, overlooking the entire harbor area from a high point shows a beautiful night scene with the reflections of fishing lights. If you want to enjoy such beautiful harbor scenery, there are several excellent viewing spots: from the Suhua Highway or the top of Fort Hill, you can see the long cape on both sides of Su'ao Harbor, resembling the two large pincers of a crab. Additionally, there is Qixing Ridge next to the harbor, where you can hike up the path to get a magnificent view of the harbor to the south and, to the north, catch a glimpse of the turtle in the sea and admire the beautiful landscape of the Lanyang Plain, with vast views and pleasant scenery. Besides enjoying the views, the waters near the embankment are often frequented by large fish, attracting many anglers to showcase their skills, but please be sure to assess your own conditions and the weather and wave conditions of the day, and pay attention to fishing safety!
