Su'ao Harbor Introduction
Su'ao Port is located at the exit of the Lanyang Tunnel, formerly known as Donggang. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the Pacific Ocean to the east, it is a naturally advantageous harbor due to the encircling Southern and Northern Ao. Since ancient times, it has been one of the commercial ports driving the prosperity of Lanyang, and it later transformed into an international trade port, becoming an important import and export hub, as well as a ten-year construction miracle achieved through land reclamation. Before arriving at Su'ao Port, you should know about a legendary sight here - the "Su'ao Mirage Market," one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Lanyang." Due to the broad harbor, when the sea is calm in spring and summer, the reflections of merchant ships in the water create an illusion of pavilions in the air, resembling a fairyland. Additionally, viewing the entire port area from a high vantage point during sunset, with the night setting in and the reflection of fishing lights, offers another famous view of Su'ao. For a full appreciation of this beautiful harbor scenery, there are several excellent viewpoints: from the Suhua Highway or Haotai Mountain, one can see the long cape on the north and south sides of Su'ao Port, resembling the two large pincers of a crab. There’s also Qixing Ridge next to the port, where one can hike up the trail; from the top, you can overlook the magnificent harbor to the south and gaze at the turtle-shaped island in the sea to the north, closely observing the beautiful landscape of the Lanyang Plain, with a broad view and pleasant scenery. Besides sightseeing, the waters near the embankment are often frequented by large fish, attracting many anglers to test their skills, but please be sure to consider your own conditions and the weather on that day for fishing safety!
