Su'ao Harbor Introduction
Su'ao Harbor, located at the exit of the Lanyang Tunnel and formerly known as Donggang, is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the Pacific Ocean to the east. Due to the embrace of Nangfan'ao and Beifan'ao on the sides, it is a strategically located natural harbor of superior quality. Since ancient times, it has been one of the commercial ports driving the prosperity of Lanyang, and later transformed into an international trade port, becoming an important import and export hub, and is also a ten-year engineering miracle formed by land reclamation. Before arriving at Su'ao Harbor, you should know about the legendary scenery known as "Su'ao Mirage," one of the "Eight Sights of Lanyang." Because the harbor has a wide surface, during the calm sea conditions of spring and summer, the reflections of boats and stalls in the water create the illusion of towers and pavilions, resembling a celestial realm. When viewed from a height at sunset, the entire port area is reflected in the twilight, showcasing another famous scenery of Su'ao. To take in this beautiful harbor view, there are several excellent vantage points: from the Suhua Highway or from the top of Fortress Mountain, you can see the long cape on both the north and south sides of Su'ao Harbor, resembling the two large pincers of a crab; there is also Qixing Ridge next to the port, where you can ascend the trail to get a magnificent view of the harbor to the south, and to the north, you can gaze into the ocean at Turtle Island while enjoying the picturesque scenery of Lanyang Plain. The expansive view offers pleasant sights. In addition to enjoying the scenery, the waters near the embankments often attract larger fish, drawing many anglers to showcase their skills, but please ensure to consider your own conditions and the weather and sea conditions of the day for fishing safety!
