Su'ao Harbor Introduction
Su'ao Harbor is located at the exit of the Lanyang Tunnel, formerly known as Donggang. Surrounded on three sides by mountains and facing the Pacific Ocean, it is a naturally excellent harbor due to the embrace of Nan'ao and Bei'ao on either side. Since ancient times, it has been one of the commercial harbors driving the prosperity of Lanyang, later transformed into an international trade harbor, becoming an important point for imports and exports, as well as a marvel of construction achieved through land reclamation over ten years. Before arriving at Su'ao Harbor, one should be aware of the legendary scenery known as "Su'ao Mirage," one of the "Eight Scenic Views of Lanyang." Because of the broad harbor, when the sea surface is calm during spring and summer, the reflections of the vessels and stalls appear in the water, seeming to create pavilions in the air, resembling an immortal realm. When the sun sets, observing the entire harbor area from a height showcases another famous view of Su'ao, with the night scene reflecting the flickering fishing lights. If you want to fully appreciate the beautiful harbor scenery, there are several excellent vantage points: from Suhua Highway or Baotai Mountain, you can see the long cape on both sides of Su'ao Harbor, resembling the large pincers of a crab; there is also Qixing Ridge near the harbor, where climbing the trail to a higher position allows for a magnificent view of the bay to the south and a distant sight of the turtle in the sea to the north, along with a close look at the beautiful landscape of the Lanyang Plain, offering broad vistas and pleasant scenery. In addition to enjoying the views, the waters near the embankment often attract large fish, drawing many anglers to showcase their skills, but please be sure to consider your own condition as well as the day's weather and waves, and pay attention to fishing safety!
