Su'ao Harbor Introduction
Su'ao Port is located at the exit of the Lanyang Tunnel, formerly known as Donggang. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the Pacific Ocean to the east, it is a naturally excellent harbor due to the enclosing arms of Nan'ao and Be'ao. Historically, it has been one of the commercial ports driving the prosperity of the Lanyang area, and it has later been transformed into an international trade port, becoming an important hub for imports and exports. It also represents a miraculous ten-year construction project that involved land reclamation. Before visiting Su'ao Port, you should know about a legendary sight here – the "Su'ao Mirage," one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Lanyang. Due to the wide port area, during calm spring and summer days, the reflections of the vessels and stalls in the sea form the illusion of pavilions in the sky, like a fairyland. Viewing the entire port area from a high point during sunset presents another renowned sight with the dimming night reflecting the flickering fishing lights. To fully appreciate the beautiful scenery of this port, there are several great vantage points: from Suhua Highway or Baotaishan, you can observe the long cape on both sides of Su'ao Port, resembling the large claws of a crab; there is also Qixing Ridge next to the port, where you can hike up the trail to a higher point. From there, you can admire the magnificent harbor to the south and enjoy a distant view of the Turtle Island to the north, along with the charming scenery of the Lanyang Plain, offering a broad and pleasant view. In addition to sightseeing, the waters near the embankment are often home to large fish, attracting many anglers to showcase their skills. However, please be sure to consider your own condition and the weather on that day, and keep safety in mind while fishing!
