Houshan Road Museum Introduction
Established in 2011, the Houshan Highway Museum was created by the Fourth District Maintenance Engineering Office of the National Highway Administration to document the construction history of the Houshan Highway. It features themes related to roads, bridges, and tunnels, presented through photographs, artifacts, and models. The museum commemorates the arduous years of road and bridge construction since 1949, pays tribute to the hard work and perseverance of predecessors, and showcases the essence of highway culture. The Fourth District Maintenance Engineering Office of the National Highway Administration was founded on October 1, 1949. Over the past sixty years, it has created highway miracles in Yilan and Hualien counties amidst rugged terrain. The traces of the past are filled with bittersweet experiences. Looking back, the highway pioneers dedicated their "wisdom" and "sweat" to their labor, embracing the historical responsibility and sacred mission of carrying on the legacy, which continues to drive the transformation and growth of the office. Their wisdom and resilience serve as a model for learning. To document and preserve the growth history of the Houshan Highway, to reminisce about the elders who opened roads with manual tools and simple machines, and to highlight the immortal achievements of road construction, this collection of valuable artifacts representing extraordinary accomplishments will illuminate the essence of highway culture. It will promote the spirit of perseverance among "road personnel," passing on experiences as a model and benchmark for new colleagues. Consequently, related old artifacts will be compiled to establish the Houshan Highway Museum for organization and preservation.
