Nan'ao Outlook Trail Introduction
The pristine Neipi Beach, with its tranquil atmosphere and pleasant scenery, often attracts couples to stroll here and enjoy their sweet world together; thus, it is also known by the romantic name—Lover's Bay. On the Suhua Highway heading from Su'ao towards Hualien (at the 108 km mark), there is a viewpoint: the Nanfang'ao Viewing Platform. From the western side of the viewing platform, one can admire the grandeur of Huyue Mountain, while looking north offers a view of Neipi Bay and Tofu Gorge. Nanfang'ao was originally an offshore island, but due to the accumulation of sand and gravel along the coast towards the south, it has become connected to the mainland, forming a land-linked island. From the hillside, Land-Link Island appears as a series of small hills lying across the sea, with an elevation of less than 100 feet and a prominent saddle shape, especially the three hills on the right side, resembling a brush holder, hence locals refer to it as Brush Holder Mountain. At the viewing platform, visitors can also enjoy a distant view of Su'ao Harbor, making it a great spot for tourists to admire the sea and wait for the sunrise. The Second Fishing Harbor resembles a crescent shape, with fishing boats neatly lined up in the port; viewed from the Nanfang'ao Viewing Platform, it is the most beautiful among the three fishing harbors.
