Southern Bay Observation Deck Trail Introduction
The pristine Neipi Beach, with its tranquil atmosphere and pleasant scenery, often attracts couples who come here to stroll and enjoy their sweet world together, which is why it also has a romantic name - Lover's Bay. On the Suhua Highway towards Hualien (at the 108 km mark), there is a vantage point: Nanfangao Lookout. From the lookout, one can view the grandeur of Hutuoshan to the west and overlook Neipi Bay and Tofu Gorge to the north. Nanfangao was originally an offshore island, but sand and gravel accumulated along the coast, connecting the island to the mainland, forming a land bridge. From the hillside, the land bridge appears as a small range of hills resting on the sea, with an elevation of less than 100 feet. Its topography features a distinct saddle, especially the three hills on the right, which resemble a brush holder, so locals call it Brush Holder Mountain. The lookout also provides a distant view of Suao Harbor, making it a great spot for tourists to admire the sea and wait for the sunrise. The second fishing port is shaped like a crescent, and Neipi Beach, with fishing boats neatly docked in the harbor, is the most beautiful of the three fishing ports when viewed from Nanfangao Lookout.
