South Bay Observation Deck Trail Introduction
The pristine Neipi Beach, with its tranquil atmosphere and pleasant scenery, often attracts couples who come here to stroll and enjoy their sweet world together, earning it a romantic nickname—Lover's Bay. On the Suhua Highway heading from Su'ao to Hualien (at the 108 km mark), there is a high point: the Nanfang'ao Scenic Overlook. From the western side of the overlook, one can admire the grandeur of Huxingshan, while to the north, one can overlook Neipi Bay and Tofu Gorge. Nanfang'ao was originally an offshore island, but due to sand and gravel accumulating along the coast towards the south, it became connected to the mainland, forming a land-linked island. From the mountain side, the land-linked island appears as a row of small hills lying on the sea, with an elevation of less than 100 feet and a distinct saddle shape, particularly the three hills on the right, resembling a brush holder, hence locals refer to it as Brush Holder Mountain. The overlook also provides a distant view of Su'ao Harbor, making it a great spot for tourists to enjoy the sea scenery and wait for the sunrise. The Second Fishing Port has a crescent-shaped Neipi Beach, with fishing boats neatly docked in the harbor. From the Nanfang'ao Scenic Overlook, it is the most beautiful of the three fishing ports.
