Nan Fang Ao Viewing Platform Trail Introduction
The pristine Neipi Beach, with its tranquil atmosphere and pleasant scenery, often attracts lovers who come here to stroll and enjoy their sweet world together; hence, it also has a romantic name—Lover's Bay. On the Suhua Highway towards Hualien (at the 108 km mark), there is a high point: Nanfangao Viewing Platform. From the western side of the viewing platform, you can overlook the grandeur of Huhot Mountain, while to the north, you can gaze down at Neipi Bay and Tofu Gorge. Nanfangao was originally an offshore island, but due to the accumulation of sand and gravel along the coast towards the island's south, it has connected the island to the mainland, forming a land-linked island. From the mountainside, Land-linked Island appears as a series of small hills lying across the sea, with an elevation of less than 100 feet, featuring a distinct saddle in its terrain, especially the three hills on the right side, which resemble a brush holder. Therefore, the locals call it Brush Holder Mountain. The viewing platform also offers a distant view of Su'ao Port, making it a great place for tourists to enjoy the sea view while waiting for the sunrise. The Second Fishing Port resembles a crescent shape at Neipi Beach, with fishing boats neatly docked in the harbor. Viewed from the Nanfangao Viewing Platform, it is the most beautiful among the three fishing ports.
