Nanfang'ao Observation Deck Trail Introduction
The pristine Neipi Beach, with its tranquil atmosphere and pleasant scenery, often attracts couples to stroll here and enjoy their sweet world together; thus, it is also known by the romantic name - Lover's Bay. On the Suhua Highway heading from Su'ao to Hualien (at the 108-kilometer mark), there is a scenic viewpoint: Nanfang'ao Viewpoint. From the west side of the viewpoint, one can gaze at the grandeur of Huto Mountain, while to the north, it overlooks Neipi Bay and Tofu Gorge. Nanfang'ao was originally an offshore island, but due to the accumulation of sand and gravel along the coast, it has connected the island to the mainland, forming a land-connected island. From the hillside, the land-connected island resembles a series of small hills lying across the sea, with an elevation of less than 100 feet. The topography has a distinct saddle, especially the three hills on the right, which look like a pen stand, hence locals refer to it as Pen Stand Mountain. From the viewpoint, one can also enjoy a distant view of Suao Port, making it a great place for visitors to appreciate the sea view and wait for the sunrise. The Second Fishing Port is shaped like a crescent; Neipi Beach showcases fishing boats lined up neatly at the harbor, and from the Nanfang'ao Viewpoint, it is the most beautiful of the three fishing ports.
