Su-Hua Highway 107.6K Trail Introduction
The coastline from Su-ao to Nan-ao is approximately 30 kilometers long and includes South Bay, Neipi Coast, and Dongao Bay. It is considered the most beautiful coastline in Yilan County. Along this section of Provincial Highway No. 9 (Su-Hua Highway), the road winds along the mountainsides, presenting several spots for commanding views of the gorgeous coastline. The vistas are expansive and the scenery is exceptional. Here are some reference viewpoints along this route; parking is available at these spots, so feel free to stop and stretch at two or three of them as you drive by. From north to south: - **106.5K Abandoned Cement Platform**: The best view of Su-ao Military Port, with a view of the Nan-ao Cross-Harbor Bridge. - **106.9K Rotary Small Park**: Offers views of Su-ao Military Port and the South Bay area, with a parking lot available. - **107.6K Trailhead**: A concrete stairway leads down to Nan-ao, offering views of the South Bay area along the trail. - **108.2K Su-ao Inspection Station (Weigh Station)**: South of the inspection station, there is a trail through a culvert leading to Zhaoan Temple beside Neipi Fishing Port in South Bay. The beginning of the culvert trail allows for views of South Bay and Neipi Fishing Port, with stunning scenery—it's the top choice for viewpoints in this section. There is a small parking lot north of the inspection station. - **114K Small Parking Lot**: Provides views of Dongao Bay, where you can clearly see the maze-like fish traps on the water's surface. - **116.8K Pioneer Father Temple**: The best spot to overlook Dongao Bay. Behind the temple, there's an observation platform with distant views of Fenniao Lin Fishing Port and the rock formation that resembles a turtle's head (Wushi Nose). There are restrooms available, making this the best rest stop along the Su-ao to Nan-ao section.
