Su-Hua Highway 107.6K Trail Introduction
The coastline from Su'ao to Nanao is approximately 30 kilometers long and includes Nanfang'ao, Neipi Coast, and Dong'ao Bay. It is the most beautiful coastline in Yilan County. In this section of Taiwan Highway 9 (Suhua Highway), the road is built along the hillside, providing several spots to overlook the stunning coastline, offering wide vistas and excellent scenery. Here are some viewpoints along this stretch for your reference. There are no issues parking small cars at these viewpoints, so when driving through, consider stopping at two or three spots to stretch a bit. From north to south: ● 106.5K Abandoned Cement Platform: The best spot to overlook Su'ao Military Port, where you can also see the Nanfang'ao Cross-Harbor Bridge. ● 106.9K Rotary Club Park: Offers views of Su'ao Military Port and the Nanfang'ao area, with a parking lot available. ● 107.6K Hiking Trail Entrance: There is a cement stairway leading down to Nanfang'ao; you can enjoy views of the Nanfang'ao area along the trail. ● 108.2K Su'ao Inspection Station (Weighbridge): To the south of the inspection station, a culvert path leads to Zhao'an Temple near the Neipi Fishing Port in Nanfang'ao. The starting point of the culvert path allows for breathtaking views of Nanfang'ao, Neipi Fishing Port, and the coastline, making it the top choice for scenery in this segment. There is a small parking lot to the north of the inspection station. ● 114K Small Parking Lot: You can look out over Dong'ao Bay, where you can clearly see the maze-like fixed fishing nets on the sea surface. ● 116.8K Pioneer's Temple: The best location to overlook Dong'ao Bay. Behind the temple is an observation platform where you can view Fenfong Fish Port and the distinctive rock formation known as Wushi Nose, which resembles a turtle poking its head out. There are restrooms, making this the ideal rest stop along the Su'ao to Nanao stretch.
