Su-Hua Highway 107.6K Trail Introduction
The coastline from Su'ao to Nan'ao spans approximately 30 kilometers and includes the areas of Nanfang'ao, Neipi Coast, and Dong'ao Bay. It is known as the most beautiful coastline in Yilan County. On this section of Taiwan Route 9, the Suhua Highway, the road is carved along the mountain slopes, providing several locations where one can overlook the stunning coastline from a height. The views are expansive and the scenery is excellent. Here are some lookout points along this route for your reference, where parking for small vehicles is available. When driving through, consider stopping at a couple of these points to stretch your legs. From north to south: ● 106.5K Abandoned Concrete Platform: The best vantage point to overlook the Su'ao Military Harbor, where you can also see the Nanfang'ao Cross-Harbor Bridge. ● 106.9K Rotary Club Small Park: Offers views of Su'ao Military Harbor and Nanfang'ao area, with a parking lot available. ● 107.6K Mountain Trail Entrance: There is a concrete staircase leading to Nanfang'ao here, where you can enjoy views of the Nanfang'ao area along the trail. ● 108.2K Su'ao Inspection Station (Weigh Station): On the south side of the inspection station, a pedestrian tunnel leads to the vicinity of Zhao'an Temple by Neipi Fishing Harbor in Nanfang'ao. The starting point of the tunnel offers breathtaking views of Nanfang'ao, Neipi Fishing Harbor, and the coastline, making it the top choice for viewing in this section. A small parking lot is located on the north side of the inspection station. ● 114K Small Parking Lot: Offers views of Dong'ao Bay, where the fixed fishing nets in the sea resemble a maze pattern. ● 116.8K Pioneer Temple: The best location to overlook Dong'ao Bay, with an observation platform behind the temple allowing for distant views of Fenqie Forest Fishing Harbor and Wushi Cape, which resembles a turtle's head. A restroom is available, making this the best rest stop on the Su'ao to Nan'ao segment.
