Wusha Former Residence Introduction
Wu Sha was an important contributor to the development of Yilan. At that time, Yilan was an undeveloped wilderness, and Wu Sha led Han people from Zhanghua, Quanzhou, and Guangdong to cultivate the land. Initially, there were frequent disputes with the Kavalan people. Later, when smallpox spread, Wu Sha helped them with medicine, and the Kavalan people became grateful, leading to a peaceful coexistence that laid the foundation for the development of Yilan. Therefore, Wu Sha is revered as the first person to establish Yilan. During his lifetime, he found the terrain of Jiaoxi to be favorable, so he built a house and settled there. The residence is a century-old Sanhe courtyard, and the couplet outside reads, "A truly unparalleled hero in land development, indeed the first person in Yilan." It is currently planned to be the "Wu Sha Memorial Hall." The weathered red brick exterior walls have a strong sense of antiquity. Although the Wu Sha residence has been renovated, traces of the century-old house can still be felt. Inside, the walls are adorned with many introductions, historical events, and plaques, many of which are related to Lanyang. Additionally, there are altars and portraits honoring Wu Sha. For those interested in the history of development in the Yilan area, this is a worthwhile place to visit, and it is believed they will gain valuable insights!
