Qing Shui Floodgate Introduction
The Dongshan River flows steadily toward the sea, and the area known as Xiaqing Shui is the lowest point at the river's mouth. The Qingshui Sluice Gate, also known as the Wujie Tidal Gate, is a well-known sluice gate attraction in Wujie Township, Yilan. The Qingshui Sluice Gate has 20 sluice openings, each measuring 2.5 meters, which plays a significant role in regulating water levels. As a result, there are fewer occurrences of flooding or seawater intrusion in the lower reaches of the Dongshan River. The sluice gate offers a good view and beautiful scenery, making it a popular spot for watching sunsets or moonlit nights. The shimmering surface of the water often reflects the travelers' images. Additionally, this location has been featured in many well-known Taiwanese films, attracting numerous visitors. Besides its function of regulating water, the sluice gate is also a favorite spot for anglers. Since the area is where freshwater and seawater intersect, it boasts rich ecosystems of fish and shrimp, drawing many water birds to forage. By walking from the sluice gate along the river mouth, one can reach the Lanyang River Estuary Bird Watching Area to observe birds.
