Qingshui Floodgate Introduction
The Dongshan River flows slowly towards the sea, and a place called Xiakeng Shui is the lowest area at the river's mouth where it meets the sea. The Qingshui Sluice Gate, also known as the Wujie Tidal Barrier, is a well-known sluice gate attraction in Wujie Township, Yilan. The Qingshui Sluice Gate has 20 gates, each measuring 2.5 meters, which plays a significant role in regulating water volume. As a result, the lower reaches of the Dongshan River have experienced fewer instances of flooding or seawater backflow. The sluice gate offers a great view and beautiful scenery, making it a popular spot for watching sunsets or the moon. The shimmering water surface often reflects the travelers' silhouettes, and since this location is a famous filming site for Taiwanese movies, it attracts many visitors. Besides its function in regulating water flow, the sluice gate is also a favorite spot for anglers. As it is located where freshwater and seawater meet, it boasts a rich ecological resource of fish and shrimp, attracting many waterbirds to forage. Following the sluice gate along the river mouth leads to the Lanyang River Estuary Bird Sanctuary, a great place for birdwatching.
