Qingshui Zhaimen Introduction
The Dongshan River flows slowly into the sea, with a place called Xiaoqingshui being the lowest area at the river's mouth. The Qingshui Floodgate, also known as the Wujie Tidal Gate, is a well-known floodgate attraction in Wujie Township, Yilan. The Qingshui Floodgate features 20 sluice openings, each 2.5 meters wide, which play a significant role in regulating water flow. As a result, flooding and seawater backflow are less common in the downstream region of the Dongshan River. The floodgate offers a great view and beautiful scenery, making it a perfect spot for watching sunsets or moonlight. The shimmering water surface always reflects the travelers' images. Additionally, it has been a filming location for famous movies in Taiwan, attracting many visitors. Besides its function in water regulation, the floodgate is also a favorite spot for anglers. The confluence of freshwater and seawater inside and outside the gate provides rich ecological resources for fish and shrimp, attracting many water birds to forage here. Walking from the floodgate along the river mouth leads to the Lanyang River Estuary Bird Sanctuary for bird watching.
