Qingshui Latch Gate

Yilan Attractions

Qingshui Latch Gate Introduction

The Dongshan River flows gently toward the sea, with a place called Xia Qing Shui located at the lowest point of the river's estuary. The Qing Shui Floodgate, also known as the Wujie Tide Gate, is a well-known attraction in Wujie Township, Yilan. The Qing Shui Floodgate has 20 sluice gates, each 2.5 meters wide, which play a significant role in regulating water flow. As a result, the lower reaches of the Dongshan River experience fewer incidents of flooding or seawater backflow. The floodgate offers a good view and beautiful scenery, whether watching the sunset or admiring the moonlight. The shimmering surface of the water always reflects the travelers' silhouettes. Additionally, this site is famous for being a filming location for well-known Taiwanese movies, which attracts many visitors. Besides its function of regulating water flow, the floodgate is also a favorite spot for anglers. As it is located at the confluence of freshwater and seawater, it boasts abundant fish and shrimp resources and attracts many water birds looking for food. Therefore, walking from the floodgate along the estuary leads to the Lanyang River Estuary Bird Sanctuary for bird watching.
