Qingshui Zhaimen Introduction
The Dongshan River flows slowly into the sea, and the area known as Xi Qing Shui is the lowest point at the estuary of the river. The Qingshui Sluice Gate, also known as the Wujie Tidal Gate, is a well-known sluice gate attraction in Wujie Township, Yilan. The Qingshui Sluice Gate features 20 sluice openings, each measuring 2.5 meters, which play a significant role in regulating water flow, thereby reducing the occurrences of flooding or seawater backflow in the lower Dongshan River. The sluice gate offers a good view and beautiful scenery, making it a perfect spot for watching sunsets or moonlit nights, with the shimmering water surface reflecting the travelers' silhouettes. Additionally, this location has been a film shooting site for notable Taiwanese movies, attracting many visitors. In addition to regulating water flow, the sluice gate is a favorite spot for anglers. Since it is located at the confluence of freshwater and seawater, it boasts a rich ecosystem of fish and shrimp and attracts many water birds searching for food. Walking along the river mouth from the sluice gate leads to the Lanyang River Estuary Birdwatching Area.
