Shin Liau Waterfall Introduction
The Newliao Waterfall is located in Zhongshan Village, Dongshan Township, and is the source of the Dongshan River. The Newliao Waterfall Trail is approximately 900 meters long and follows the Newliao Creek Valley. However, to protect the ecological environment, there is a control station at the entrance of the Newliao Waterfall, limiting visitors to 350 people. The source of the Newliao Creek is Newliao Mountain, which is 980 meters above sea level. Due to the developed fault terrain, there are 10 waterfalls along the way, with the Newliao Waterfall being the lowest, converging with the Jiulia Creek to form the Dongshan River. The trail features rich and diverse forest ecology, where one can often hear the chirping of insects and birds, or see butterflies and dragonflies fluttering. The path is paved with wood chips on one side and gravel on the other, allowing hikers to enjoy the faint scent of wood. Its short distance makes it an easy hike, making it a popular public trail. Upon reaching the end, one can hear the sound of flowing water and look up to see the 30-meter high Newliao Waterfall cascading down. The deep green pool at the bottom adds to the spectacular view, and the area around the waterfall feels cool. Taking a deep breath of the air rich in negative ions sweeps away the fatigue and worries from hiking.
