Hometown Story Museum Introduction
Located beside the Qianxi Community on Guangfeng Road in Guishan District, the Military Dependents' Village Story Museum was originally the office of the Luzhong Three Villages Self-Governing Association, and it served as an important venue for dependents' village activities. It has been preserved by local residents as a place for emotional exchange. In order to preserve the spirit of the cultural heritage of the dependents' villages, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taoyuan City Government registered it as a historic building in 2004, naming it the "Guishan Military Dependents' Village Story Museum." It is the only preserved old dependents' village building after the redevelopment of Luzhong Three Villages. Inside the museum, emphasis is placed on preserving this special history of the dependents' villages, focusing on individuals while using displayed objects as supplementary materials, guiding visitors to understand the dependents' village from a cultural analysis perspective. It is hoped that through historical retrospection, the significant cultural and historical development of Guishan can be reinterpreted. Therefore, no demolition has been done to alter the original appearance of the building, and construction materials for exhibitions have been added to create an environment for the regeneration of dependents' village culture. In the internal setup, recent research materials on the history of the dependents' village collected in Guishan are presented through documentaries and audio boxes, allowing everyone to better appreciate the reality of life in the dependents' village. Moreover, the planning team has designed foldable and movable "story boxes," creating a display space for everyone and each family's treasured stories. Besides the guided displays of life in the dependents' village, various interactive games related to the village's culture have been designed in thematic areas for visitors to participate, making it easy to get to know the beautiful aspects of the dependents' village. Annually around October, the "Dependents' Village Cultural Festival" is held here, featuring village delicacies, special exhibitions of cultural relics, film retrospectives, group performances, fun fairs, DIY crafts, and storytelling, enabling different generations and groups to experience the emotions unique to the dependents' village. Just like when one first steps into a strange village, taking up paper and pen to record the stories of uncles and aunts creates a shared living memory that binds our life trajectories without us even realizing it. We have unknowingly gained several homes in Guishan. Now, the "Military Dependents' Village Story Museum" is the warm home we found for the life stories of our uncles and aunts. Everyone is welcome to come and listen to the stories of Guishan, the stories of the dependents' village, and share these stories with the people of Guishan, with outsiders, and with our next generation, ensuring the sustainable continuation of the dependents' village culture.
