Hometown Stories Museum Introduction
Located next to the Millennium Community on Guangfeng Road in Guishan District, the Military Dependents' Village Story Museum was originally the office of the Luguang Third Village Autonomous Association, serving as an important venue for community activities. It has been preserved by local residents and has become a meaningful place for emotional exchange. In order to preserve the spirit of the military dependents' village cultural heritage, the Taoyuan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau designated it as a historical building in 2004, naming it "Guishan Military Dependents' Village Story Museum." It is the only remaining old military dependents' village building after the redevelopment of Luguang Third Village. Inside the museum, the focus is on preserving the unique history of the military dependents' village, centered around people and supplemented by exhibits. Visitors are guided to understand the village from a cultural analysis perspective, with the hope of reinterpreting this important historical development in Guishan through a historical retrospective. Therefore, the entire museum has not undergone any demolition work to preserve the original appearance of the building, and instead has adopted the method of adding display materials to create a revitalized environment for the village culture. In the interior displays, recent historical materials related to the military dependents' village collected in Guishan are presented through documentaries and sound boxes, allowing visitors to better experience the realities of village life. Notably, the planning unit has also designed foldable and movable "story boxes" to provide each person and family a dedicated space to showcase their treasured stories. Besides the guided displays of military dependents' village life, various themed areas feature interactive games that allow visitors to participate and easily learn about the beauty of the village. In addition to presenting the culture of the military dependents' village, an annual "Military Dependents' Village Culture Festival" is held around October, featuring military dependents' cuisine, special exhibitions of cultural artifacts, film retrospectives, group performances, garden parties, DIY crafts, and story recordings, ensuring that people from different generations can share in the joys of the military dependents' village. Just like the moment you step into an unfamiliar village and begin to take notes on the stories of uncles and aunts, our life trajectories unwittingly share a common memory. In this way, we have unwittingly gained several homes in Guishan. Now, the "Military Dependents' Village Story Museum" is the warm home where we've found the life stories of our elders. Everyone is welcome to come listen to the stories of Guishan, the stories of the military dependents' village, and pass these stories on to the people of Guishan, to outsiders, and to our future generations, allowing the culture of the military dependents' village to be sustainably carried on.
