Veteran Village Story House Introduction
Located next to the Millennium Community on Guangfeng Road in Guishan District, the Military Dependents' Village Story Museum was originally the office of the Luguang Third Village Self-Government Association, serving as an important gathering place for the residents of the village. It has been preserved by local residents as a space for emotional exchange. In order to preserve the spirit of the military dependents’ village cultural heritage, the Cultural Bureau of Taoyuan City Government registered it as a historic building in 2004, naming it the "Guishan Military Dependents' Village Story Museum." It is the only old military dependents' village building that remains after the redevelopment of Luguang Third Village. The museum focuses on preserving this unique history of the military dependents’ village, centering on individuals while using objects to complement the narrative. From a cultural analysis perspective, it guides visitors to understand the military dependents' village and hopes to reinterpret this significant historical and cultural development in Guishan through a retrospective lens. Thus, the entire museum has not undergone any demolition work to retain its original appearance; instead, it has adopted the method of adding new display materials to create an environment for the revitalization of military dependents' village culture. Inside, in addition to presenting historical and cultural materials regarding the military dependents' village collected in recent years, the museum uses documentaries and sound boxes to allow visitors to experience the authentic aspects of life in the military dependents' village. Notably, the planning unit has designed foldable and movable "story boxes," providing each person and family with a space to showcase their treasured stories. Beyond the displays of life in the military dependents' village, various interactive games in themed areas allow visiting guests to participate and easily appreciate the beautiful aspects of the village. Each year, around October, the museum hosts the "Military Dependents' Village Cultural Festival," featuring military dependents' village cuisine, special exhibitions of artifacts, video retrospectives, group performances, fairs, DIY handicrafts, and story records, aiming to make sure that different generations can connect with the emotions of the military dependents' village. Just like the moment we step into this unfamiliar village and pick up paper and pen to record the stories of the uncles and aunts, our life trajectories unknowingly build shared memories. In this way, we have unknowingly added several homes in Guishan. Now, the "Military Dependents' Village Story Museum" is the warm home where we find the life stories of the uncles and aunts. We welcome everyone to come and listen to the stories of Guishan and the military dependents' village, sharing these stories with the people of Guishan, those from outside, and our next generations, allowing the culture of the military dependents' village to thrive sustainably.
