Sikou Village Introduction
Do you know the renowned figure behind the naming of the tribe? Did you know that the tribespeople express love through two pieces of bamboo? How familiar are you with Xikou Tribe? Follow the footsteps of the locals to uncover music that has been sung for over a century without musical notation, taste traditional dishes that convey reverence for the earth, and explore the rich culture of Xikou, all waiting for you to discover! Located across from Jiao Ban Mountain, the Xikou Tribe sits on the river terrace upstream of the Dahan River, with a meandering landscape reminiscent of the hometown of Mr. Chiang Ching-kuo - Xikou Town in Fenghua County, Zhejiang Province. Therefore, President Chiang named it Xikou and regarded it as his second hometown. Known as the "Presidential Tribe," the Upper Xikou is located alongside the Roman Highway, while the Lower Xikou is 150 meters below the Roman Highway. The giant yellow rattan basket at the entrance is a common item for carrying goods by the women of the tribe. While strolling through the tribe, you will not only see watchtowers, granaries, and churches but also have the chance to learn to be a one-day hunter! From designing traps, observing animal behaviors, to hitting the target with arrows, you’ll enjoy an incredible sense of achievement! The new Xikou Suspension Bridge, replacing the old one, measures 303 meters in length and offers breathtaking views of the Dahan River surrounded by mountains—it is definitely unforgettable. Every tribe has its own melody, and the mouth harp music of Xikou is bright and beautiful, filled with love songs sung while dancing. If you want to improve your mouth harp skills quickly, you can’t go wrong with Master Lin Ming-fu, a national treasure! Additionally, enjoying the Atayal cuisine in Xikou Tribe is a must! Dishes like millet marinated meat with aromatic leaves, millet mochi, and bamboo tube rice are full of original flavors and energy! After the meal, enjoy a cup of millet wine, singing and dancing under the beautiful starry sky; this trip to Xikou with the Atayal people will definitely be a blast!
