Yimi Anti-Annexation Peace Memorial Park Introduction

Bagua Mountain overlooks the area and controls the north-south transportation route in Taiwan, making it a strategic location that has been contested since ancient times. The Battle of Bagua Mountain was the largest conflict in Taiwan's resistance against Japanese rule. On the morning of August 29, 1895, Japanese forces crossed the Dadu River and attacked the eastern high ground of Bagua Mountain. The militia commander Wu Peng-nian and his troops fought valiantly in a bloodbath for three days and nights, resulting in the deaths of Japanese figures, including Prince Kuniyuki and Major General Sangane, at our artillery fire.
