Araki Center for Art Introduction
Tongxiao Huangmu Art Garden was established in 1966, originally known as the Eastern Woodcarving Art Creation Society. In 1969, it was renamed Huangmu Art Garden and has since become a well-known woodcarving factory in Tongxiao. It witnessed the thriving woodcarving industry of the 1960s in Tongxiao and is one of the few woodcarving factories that continue to operate today. In 1994, Huangmu Art Garden established an art center that introduces traditional Chinese large woodwork and carving techniques, showcasing wooden Buddha statues, root carvings,透雕 (pierced carving), and everyday wooden craft items. Coupled with a tour of the woodcarving workspace and DIY carving activities, it has become a renowned cultural and artistic destination in the area. In the woodcarving display area, there are solemn sculptures of deities, as well as numerous practical craft items, all featuring intricate carvings that are eye-opening. The factory operations area retains complete production equipment, basic woodworking tools, woodcarving molds, and carving tools, allowing visitors to glimpse the woodcarving process. For those who wish to try their hand at woodcarving, there is a DIY area where visitors can carve items such as pencil holders, bookshelves, and masks of the God of Wealth, which represents the Five Roads. Thus, the Huangmu Art Center has elevated the traditional woodcarving factory to a Buddhist art center and serves as a hall for cultural heritage.
