Araki Art Center Introduction
The Tongxiao Huangmu Art Garden was founded in 1966, originally known as the Oriental Woodcarving Art Creation Society. In 1969, it was renamed Huangmu Art Garden and has since become a well-known woodcarving factory in Tongxiao. It witnessed the flourishing woodcarving industry of the 1960s and is one of the few woodcarving factories still in operation today. In 1994, the art center was established to introduce traditional Chinese large woodwork and carving techniques, showcasing woodcarved Buddhist statues, root carvings,透雕 (pierced carvings), and everyday wooden craft items. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the woodcarving work area, participate in DIY carving activities, making it a renowned cultural and artistic site in the region. The exhibition area of wooden carvings features solemn Buddhist deity sculptures and various handcrafted pieces with intricate details, impressive to behold. The production area retains complete manufacturing equipment, basic woodworking tools, woodcarving molds, and carving tools, providing insight into the woodcarving process. For those who wish to try their hand at wood carving, there is a DIY section where visitors can carve their own pencil holders, bookshelves, and the faces of the Five Paths of Wealth Gods. Therefore, the Huangmu Art Center elevates the traditional woodcarving factory into a Buddhist art center and serves as a hall for cultural heritage.
