Tonksiao Shrine Introduction
Rinjyu Relics ~ A site of historical significance featuring traditional Japanese architecture. The Tongxiao Shrine, which has a strong Japanese shrine atmosphere, is located within Hutedashan Park. It was constructed in 1937 and currently only the main hall's foundation, the remains of the offering hall, the approach, the worship hall, the torii gate, and the shrine office exist. Although the elevation of the mountain is less than 100 meters, the broad view offers a panorama of the streets of Tongxiao, and the long pathway leading upward is quite charming. The Tongxiao Shrine, situated on the Tiger Head Mountain in Tongxiao, has weathered many storms over the years, leaving its architectural appearance nearly as ruins. Recently, it was renovated by the Miaoli County Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the shrine now appears almost identical to its original state, if not better. On June 19, 2005, the town hall held a ceremony for the completion of "Miaoli County Historical Architecture - The New Appearance of Tongxiao Shrine" in front of the shrine, celebrating with a series of lively activities.
