Tongxiao Shrine Introduction
Ritō Remnants - Historic Significance of Traditional Japanese Architecture. The Tongxiao Shrine, with its strong Japanese Shinto shrine ambiance, is located within Hujiaoshan Park. This shrine, built in 1937, currently only has the main hall's base, relics of the offering hall, the approach, the worship hall, the torii gate, and the shrine office remaining. Although the mountain's elevation is less than 100 meters, the expansive view allows visitors to overlook the streets of Tongxiao. Climbing the long path up the stairs is quite enchanting. The Tongxiao Shrine is situated on Hujiaoshan in Tongxiao. Over the years, it has endured the ravages of wind and rain, with its architectural appearance nearly reduced to crumbling walls. Recently, the Miaoli County Cultural Affairs Bureau has completed a restoration that has almost entirely restored the shrine's appearance to its original state, if not better. Additionally, the township office held a ceremony on June 19, 2005, titled "Miaoli County Historic Buildings - The New Appearance of Tongxiao Shrine," celebrating with a series of lively events.
