Xihu Sugar Factory Introduction
Xihu Sugar Factory exudes a sweet and nostalgic atmosphere, combining culture, leisure, and gastronomy. It not only perfectly preserves the old sugar factory with its gigantic chimney and sugar evaporation tanks, but also embodies a "steampunk" essence. An old steam locomotive continues to traverse the old iron tracks, now adorned to carry passengers, while the charming old buildings have transformed into specialty stores selling traditional shaved ice, trendy desserts, and ice cream. The spacious area features a forested environment and lush greenery, equipped with a large barbecue area, ecological ponds, and more, making it a popular tourist destination in Changhua. Taiwan was once the largest sugar exporter in Asia, and Xihu Sugar Factory was the highest sugar-producing factory in the country. After a glorious history, the massive sugar mill allows visitors to experience the splendor of a century-old sugar industry. Relevant government agencies have also sought to list it as a "World Industrial Heritage Site," highlighting its grand scale and hidden charm.
