Changhua City and Bagua Mountain Fort Introduction
The old-fashioned mountain cannons were no match against the emerging enemy forces. On Bagua Mountain, formerly known as Dingjun Mountain, the construction of Changhua City was completed in the 20th year of the Jiaqing Emperor's reign, during which a brick fortress named Dingjun Mountain Fortress was built on the mountain. It was equipped with four artillery emplacements and a city gate tower. In the first year of the Tongzhi Emperor's reign (1862), Dai Chaochun united with the Ba Gua Society to revolt. A few days later, Bagua Mountain was occupied, and the artillery positions at Dingjun Fortress were also taken control of and used to bombard Changhua City, which was subsequently captured two days later.
