Erba Wan Ancient Trail Introduction
The "Erba Curve Ancient Trail" is a small path that leads from Liouzi Keng in Huimin Village, Ershuei Township, or from Daliu Keng in Mijian Township, straight up the forest trail to the mountain top. It has a history of over a hundred years, with a total of 28 bends, thus locally referred to as "Erba Wan Zi." In the past, this route was commonly used by farmers carrying pineapples, tea leaves, and ginger on foot, making long journeys to Ershuei Township to sell their crops and then buying rice, salt, or other daily necessities before returning home. Frequent passage over time naturally formed this small path, and even intermarriages between the two areas involved newlywed couples taking this shortcut, carrying the bridal sedan through the ancient trail to reach the groom's home, connecting the friendships between Changhua County and Nantou County. Later, due to years of disrepair and damage from storms, the ancient trail became overgrown with weeds. To revitalize the local tourism industry, the Ershuei Township Office actively planned to open and establish signage, rest points, and other amenities, transforming the ancient trail into a scenic mountain walking trail. This approximately two-kilometer-long winding forest path across the Bagua Mountain Range offers beautiful scenery, rich forest landscapes with many wild rare plants, animals, and insects, such as Lotus pedunculate, thorny bamboo, taro, mountain palm, golden-haired rhododendron, camphor tree, acacia, large butterfly, pale yellow butterfly, pale patterned blue butterfly, and many bird species. It winds through the woods, showcasing many unknown plants and unique soft pebble walls.
