Erba-Wan Ancient Trail Introduction
The "Erba-Wan Ancient Trail" is a forest path leading from the Liuzi Keng in Huimin Village, Ershui Township, or from the Dayuliu Keng in Mjian Township, straight up to the mountain top. This trail has existed for over a century and is known locally as "Erba-Wan." In the past, it was a crucial route for farmers from the mountains who carried pineapples, tea leaves, and ginger down to Ershui Township for sale, and then returned home after purchasing rice, salt, and other daily necessities. Due to frequent use over the years, a natural path formed, which even served as a route for marriages, where newlywed couples would be carried along this shortcut to reach the groom’s home, strengthening the bond between Changhua County and Nantou County. However, after years of neglect and destruction by storms, the ancient trail became overgrown and hidden. To revitalize local tourism, the Ershui Township Office actively planned its restoration, installing guiding signs and rest points, thereby transforming the ancient trail into a scenic mountain walking trail area. This approximately two-kilometer winding path through the Bagua Mountain Range offers beautiful scenery and a rich forest landscape, hosting many rare wild plants and animals, including the Guanyin Lotus, spiny bamboo, taro, mountain palm, golden-haired azalea, camphor tree, acacia tree, various butterflies like the Papilio memnon and common yellow swallowtail, as well as numerous bird species. The trail weaves through the woods, revealing many unknown plants and special soft pebble walls.
